The Czech government is considering increasing the cost of housing for Ukrainian refugees, which will be included in the total amount of humanitarian aid. This was announced by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka, proukrainu.blesk.cz reports.

It is noted that the amount of new payments is currently under discussion.

Czech Republic plans to increase payments to Ukrainians: what is known

Starting in January 2024, the amount of housing costs for refugees may be increased.

"We are preparing a government decree that should increase the amount of deductions from January 1, i.e. increase the amount of housing support. We will still discuss specific amounts," said Yurechka.

As you know, the terms of payments for Ukrainians have changed since July 2023. In particular, financial assistance now includes funds for living expenses and housing. Only families with incomes below the subsistence level and mandatory housing costs receive support.

According to charitable organizations, this assistance has proven to be insufficient, and refugees repeatedly fall into debt.

Since July, the state has been paying for housing for Ukrainian refugees in accommodation facilities only for 150 days. This change was aimed at encouraging Ukrainians to look for work and move to rented housing.

How much do Ukrainian refugees currently receive in the Czech Republic?

Currently, the housing allowance is 2400 CZK (3926 UAH) per person per month, and 3000 CZK (4907 UAH) in registered apartments.

The maximum amount for a family of 5 or more people is 15 thousand CZK (UAH 24540). The subsistence minimum is added to this.

According to the government's calculations, a mother's family with two older children and a net income of 17,000 CZK (27,800 UAH) in a registered apartment should receive an allowance of 2,110 CZK (3,436 UAH).

Non-governmental organizations note that women with children may not have enough money to pay for rent, food, and school supplies. They are warned of the risks of illegal labor and increased debt.

The government is providing emergency financial assistance to help solve the problem of debt. Previously, only people who were eligible for humanitarian aid could receive this assistance.

"In the fall, we made adjustments to the terms of emergency aid to be able to provide targeted assistance to Ukrainian refugees," the minister said. Already in September, the Employment Service registered 3,500 emergency benefits paid.

We remind you! Refugee protection and the status of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic and other EU countries are now under threat, as the temporary protection granted to Ukrainian citizens expires in 2025.
