Three regions of Ukraine may be quarantined due to COVID-19: what do we know?
The incidence of coronavirus is growing in Ukraine, and in some regions the number of cases has already exceeded the epidemic threshold. Find out where the situation is most difficult and what restrictions may be introduced in the regions
With the onset of cold weather, the epidemic situation in Ukraine has worsened due to an increase in the incidence of COVID-19. According to the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin in a telethon, the number of patients in three regions has already crossed the epidemic threshold, which means that the authorities may introduce quarantine and other restrictions to stabilize the situation.
What strains of coronavirus are there in Ukraine?
According to Kuzin, 14 strains of COVID-19 are currently circulating in Ukraine. The main one is Omicron, but it mutates into new strains, including Pirole and Eris, which are now common in Europe. According to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, laboratories detect new mutations almost every week.
How many people in Ukraine have coronavirus?
The incidence of COVID-19 is growing every day. Thus, over the past week, the number of patients in Ukraine has increased by 20% compared to the previous week.
"An average of 4,200 patients are hospitalized in Ukraine every week. Both resuscitation and fatal cases are registered. Over the past week, 56 people died of coronavirus infection, including one child," notes Ihor Kuzin.
Among all cases, about 35% of people have COVID-19. At the same time, children account for almost 50% of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the epidemic season, more than a million Ukrainians have already contracted influenza and coronavirus. And now the epidemic threshold has crossed the border in western and northern Ukraine.

In which regions of Ukraine can quarantine be introduced due to COVID-19?
The most difficult situation is now in Ternopil, Zhytomyr, and Chernivtsi regions.
"The indicators there are already higher than standard for this period. That is, these regions can already introduce certain restrictive anti-epidemic measures," Kuzin emphasizes.
