Ukraine, despite the war, remains open for foreign visitors. However, the country can be accessed only by land route, so we tell you whether you need a Green Card to enter Ukraine.

Green Card is an international civil liability policy for drivers. It is necessary for every driver who travels across countries in his own car. This policy will compensate the costs of treatment or repair of the victim's car in case of an accident.

Also the insurance document is necessary to pass customs control in countries that participate in the Green Card system. And Ukraine is one of the participants of this system, so the policy is needed to enter this country.

What other documents are needed?

It is worth noting that there are no restrictions in connection with the introduction of martial law on the territory of Ukraine for foreigners, except for citizens of the aggressor country. Nevertheless, to enter Ukraine, you need to have the following documents with you:

1. A valid passport (citizens of Turkey and Georgia can enter Ukraine on the basis of ID-card);

2. Visa (unless otherwise stipulated by law or visa-free regime is established with the country);

3. Confirmation of the purpose of the trip (document confirming family ties, invitation from a citizen of Ukraine, invitation to participate in conferences or other events, booked tour, hotel reservation, etc.);

4. Confirmation of sufficient funds for the whole period of stay in Ukraine and for return to the country of origin (for comfortable accommodation in Ukraine on average it is necessary to have $45 per day per person);

5. Insurance policy issued by an insurance company registered in Ukraine or a foreign insurance company with a representative office in Ukraine or contractual relations (assistance). You can do it here.

How long can a car with foreign licence plates stay in Ukraine?

It is worth noting that foreigners arriving in Ukraine must adhere to the migration norms of the legislation. That is, the period of stay on the territory of Ukraine for foreign citizens and stateless persons is determined by the validity of the visa, or the rules provided by the visa-free regime (not more than 90 days within 180 days). To extend the period of stay in Ukraine, it is necessary to apply in advance to the state authorities (territorial bodies or subdivisions of the State Migration Service of Ukraine).

At the same time, according to Ukrainian legislation, foreign citizens can drive in Ukraine in cars with foreign licence plates for up to one year. But if you plan to stay in Ukraine longer than two months - you need to apply to the service centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for temporary registration of the car. After the expiry of the annual term, a car with foreign plates must leave Ukraine.

In addition, the Green Card, according to the standard, is issued for a period from 15 days to one year.

Note that without a Green Card you may not be allowed to enter Ukraine during customs control.
