Last year, Ukrzaliznytsia introduced a new service - car transportation on trains, some of which are equipped with special car carriers. There are now eight trains that provide this service, but in some cases there may be a significant waiting time. 

We'll tell you how much it costs to transport a car by train and how long you need to wait.

Car transportation by Ukrzaliznytsia: details

According to the Telegraph, on some popular routes, car carriers are booked a month in advance. For example, a dispatcher at Lviv Central City Station said that to transport a car by train from Lviv to Dnipro, you have to wait until April. In the case of the route from Lviv to Kyiv, there are some available dates in February.

It turns out that this service has already become very popular, but has not yet covered all possible routes. This is especially true for destinations connected to frontline cities, where car ferrying often takes place. 

However, there is another problem: the limited train schedule. In particular, the Lviv-Dnipro train operates only once every four days, as representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia told Telegraph.

What is the cost of transporting a car by train?

The cost of reserving a seat for one vehicle is 150 hryvnias. You can reserve a seat only online or by calling the ticket office.

The total cost of the service depends on the size of the car. The average cost of transportation ranges from 1200 UAH to 2-3 thousand UAH. 

You can pay for transportation only at the ticket office, but you can reserve it only online or by calling the ticket office phone numbers.

Step-by-step instructions and all the nuances of car transportation by Ukrzaliznytsia

1. Check your car:

Make sure that the height of your car does not exceed 170 cm and that it is in good technical condition. A car registration certificate and a personal passport will be a must.

2. Online ordering:

Go to the official website of Ukrzaliznytsia and select the tab for car transportation. Place an order for the selected route. Available destinations include trains from Kyiv to Lviv and Uzhhorod, from Uzhhorod to Kyiv, from Odesa to Lviv, etc.

3. Loading the car:

Bring your car to the luggage compartment of the station. Ukrzaliznytsia employees will take care of the loading process and ensure the safety of your vehicle. Passengers can watch the process of loading and unloading their cars.

4. Car security:

Each car carrier is equipped with special devices for fixing cars. There is a separate conductor in the car who is responsible for documentation and control over the process of loading and unloading cars. One car can accommodate up to 8 cars.

Be sure to keep in mind that some destinations can be very popular and reservations must be made in advance. Waiting on some routes can take a long time.
