Tucker Carlson has become an object of public interest because he has been spotted in moscow, where he plans to conduct an interview with putin. This will be his first private interview with a Western journalist since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

What is known about the organisation of Tucker Carlson's interview with the russian president?

Carlson plans to show the interview in unedited form on his Tucker Carlson Network website, and later on social media platform X, where he has a huge audience.

He thanked Elon Musk for his promise not to block the interview, but noted that he expects censorship attempts by Western governments. The author reports that the Biden administration tried to prevent the interview from taking place.

Carlson is known for his sympathy for putin and his criticism of the Biden administration for trying to prevent the interview from taking place. His political views are in line with many conservative Americans who are dissatisfied with American support for Ukraine and the enormous spending of the state budget.

Recently, Carlson called "hating putin" the main goal of America's foreign policy, but after the russian invasion of Ukraine, he changed his mind.

Tucker blamed putin for the war and expressed support for the United States: "vladimir putin started this war... He is responsible for what we see in Ukraine today".

Carlson also expressed his antipathy towards Ukrainian President Zelensky, calling him a dictator and criticising the US media for "corruption" and "state propaganda". This is due to the fact that they constantly publish interviews with Zelensky, but have never invited putin to talk to them. According to Tucker Carlson, this is not journalism, but real state propaganda.

However, not all of his statements were supported. For example, CNN's chief international news anchor Christiane Amanpour called his statements absurd, and Steve Rosenberg, the BBC's russia editor, confirmed that the BBC had tried in vain to get an interview with putin.

Carlson believes that his interview with the russian president will help Americans better understand the situation in Ukraine and world politics in general: "We're not here because we love vladimir putin, we're here because we love the United States and we want to stay successful and free." He urged citizens to consider different points of view and make free decisions, rather than blindly subscribing to state propaganda. Tucker stressed that there is a war going on in Ukraine that has truly changed the world, and Americans do not know enough about it.

In addition, Tucker Carlson added that he had also asked for an interview with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

What is behind the scandalous Tucker Carlson?

From 2016 to 2023, Carlson hosted the evening political show Tucker Carlson Tonight, which had an audience of over 5 million viewers. As a result, Tucker became an influential star on Fox, which traditionally supports Republicans.

However, in April 2023, he was fired. No official reasons have been made public, but it is believed that CEO Rupert Murdoch made this decision because of a lawsuit filed in connection with Carlson's report on the capture of the Capitol by Donald Trump's supporters on 6 January 2021 and the broadcast of Trump's false claims that his defeat in the 2020 election was the result of fraud.

Carlson resigned from the channel after the company paid $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems, a voting machine and software company. This company filed a lawsuit against Fox Corp over the channel's dissemination of defamatory statements by Trump and his supporters that the election results were rigged using their machines.

After his abrupt dismissal, he continued his career on social media platform X, where he was supported by a giant audience of grateful far-right supporters and conspiracy theorists.

He continues to support Donald Trump, advocating for a sharp reduction in illegal migration, the right to bear arms, and criticising global climate change, the Black Lives Matter movement and other liberal ideas.

In addition, Tucker Carlson, 54, does not deny conspiracy theories. For example, he has claimed that the US government has an alien spacecraft, confirmed russian propaganda about US biological weapons laboratories in Ukraine, asserted that the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was destroyed by Ukrainians, and accused Washington of involvement in the bombing of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. Russian media consider Carlson to be a journalist who is not afraid to tell the truth.

After his dismissal from Fox News, Carlson continued to be active as a journalist, conducting interviews with various politicians and expressing his views on events in the US and the world. He also continued to spread russian narratives and fakes.

For example, in November, he spread a fake about the ban on the Orthodox Church in Ukraine and the active persecution of Christians. In fact, it was just a misinterpretation of the initiative to pass a law banning the activities of the moscow patriarchate.

Despite the controversy, Carlson remained an important figure in the American media space, attracting attention for his harsh views and loud statements. His interviews with various political figures, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Argentine President Javier Milei, confirm his influence and active journalistic stance.

Tucker Carlson remained one of the most famous and controversial figures in the world of American media, continuing to attract attention for both his tough views on politics and his interest in controversy. He was the first Western journalist to interview Putin after the start of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

What is Ukraine's reaction to Tucker Carlson's interview with putin?

Hanna Malyar, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for 2021-2023, expressed her concern about the interview of the famous American journalist with the president of the russian federation. She stressed that the russian information environment is happy about such events. In her opinion, this could lead to the spread of ideologies that threaten democratic values. Hanna Malyar emphasised that it would be safer to conduct the interrogation at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Hanna Malyar's opinion was supported by Petro Andriushchenko, an advisor to the mayor of Mariupol. He compared Tucker Carlson to well-known russian TV presenters who promote aggressive ideology (solovyov, sharii and skabeyeva). Petro Andriushchenko noted that this is not the first time an American has interviewed the russian leader, recalling the film directed by Oliver Stone.
