Read more about when a car can be confiscated in Poland in the article below.

Car confiscation in Poland: what is known

According to the updates, cars will be confiscated if the driver was driving with at least 1.5 ppm of alcohol in the blood, regardless of whether he or she caused an accident.

Read what to do in case of an accident in Poland here.

In the event of an accident, the standard of 0.5 ppm of alcohol in the blood is applied to confiscate the culprit's car.

If a drunk driver causes an accident with fatal consequences for the victims, he or she may be sentenced to a minimum of 3 years in prison. For the death of a person, a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 16 years in prison are provided. Previously, the maximum term was 12 years.

Drivers will be fined

A fine in the amount of the car's value is also envisaged if it cannot be confiscated, for example, if the vehicle is damaged or belongs to another owner.

Cars owned by the employers of drunk drivers will not be subject to confiscation, but they will be punished with a fine of 5,000 PLN (49.3 thousand UAH). Also, bicycles will not be confiscated if their rider was driving under the influence.

It is known that last year in Poland, drunk drivers caused 1331 accidents. As a result of accidents caused by drunk drivers, 212 people died and 1506 were injured.

Remember! In order to drive freely in Poland and 48 other countries of the world in a car with foreign registration, the driver must have a Green Card insurance policy. The absence or delay of insurance is fraught not only with fines that are several dozen times higher than the cost of the insurance policy for a year, but also with the seizure of the car and deportation from the country with a subsequent ban on entry. You can take out insurance for the required period on our website. Read more about the amount of fines in Europe for not having a Green Card here.

We remind you! From now on, it is possible to take the theoretical test for a driver's license in Ukrainian in Poland. At the same time, it is proposed to take the practical exam with an interpreter. Read about the conditions for obtaining a driver's license and the cost of a driver's license in 2024 in our previous article.
