The Czech Republic is introducing new rules for Ukrainian children with temporary protection. Now they will be enrolled in schools in the standard terms, namely in April. This is reported by ukraina.radio.cz.

The country's Ministry of Education anticipates that about 5,000 children from Ukraine will apply for admission by the end of April.

We will tell you what will change for Ukrainian schoolchildren in the Czech Republic this year in the article.

New rules in Czech schools for Ukrainian children: what is known

From now on, Ukrainian children will be admitted to classes in the same way as children of other foreigners living in the Czech Republic. Although in many local communities these changes may not significantly affect the situation with the distribution of students to schools, in some cities there may be problems due to the limited number of places.

For example, in Mladá Boleslav, most schools already have full classes and may have to use a lottery to resolve this issue.

In addition, the government also wants to ban the creation of separate classes for Ukrainian children.

Previously, the Czech Republic had an approach to the education of Ukrainian children with temporary protection, which included the creation of separate classes for them. Separate school enrollment was introduced due to the large number of refugees after the start of the full-scale invasion. However, the authorities have decided to ban this practice. Ukrainian children will be accepted on equal terms with children of other foreigners living in the country.

However, according to a representative of the Czech Ministry of Education, the largest wave of refugees from Ukraine has already passed, so no problems with school admissions are expected.

"The number of newly arrived refugees from Ukraine has definitely decreased, so there are no longer any grounds for a specific approach to children from Ukraine. Already in 2023, the "Ukrainian entry" was only a possibility," explained Teresa Foytova, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Education.

In addition, in the next school year, it is also planned to ban the creation of segregated classes and schools for Ukrainian children to ensure their integration with their Czech peers.

Earlier, we wrote that Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic may have to fulfill a number of conditions in order to stay in the country for a longer period of time. To do this, the country's authorities want to launch a special system. Find out what exactly it is about and at what stage the potential innovations are.
