In the Hungarian capital, Budapest, Ukrainian refugees have been extended the opportunity to use public transport for free until September 30, 2024. Except for some routes, travel remains free, according to the Budapest Transport Center.

Free travel for Ukrainians in Budapest extended: details

This benefit was first introduced on March 4, 2022, and has been extended once again until the end of September 2024.

However, from April 1, 2024, it will no longer apply to certain routes of suburban "blue" buses and HÉV trains within the city.

Ukrainian refugees can use this privilege by presenting an appropriate document confirming their identity:

 passport

 identity card

 residence permit;

 student card of foreign students studying in Ukraine;

 any other document from the Ukrainian address of residence for other foreign citizens.
