To use Romanian toll roads, drivers are required to purchase an electronic vignette. However, this document does not cover all costs, as there are several road sections in the country that need to be paid additionally. Among them are ferry crossings.


Read this article to find out where to buy an electronic vignette for traveling on Romanian roads and what are the fines for not having one. 


Ferry crossing Bechet (RO) - Oreahovo (BG)


Opening hours: open daily, seven days a week. Ferries depart every 2 hours (from Romania at odd hours, from Bulgaria at even hours):

– From Bechet (RO) to Oreahovo (BG):  5.00, 7.00, 9.00, 11.00, 13.00, 15.00, 17.00, 19.00, 21.00, 23.00;

– From Oreahovo (BG) to Bechet (RO): 6.00, 8.00, 10.00, 12.00, 14.00, 16.00, 18.00, 20.00, 22.00, 24.00.

Rules of use: Both drivers and pedestrians can use the ferry crossing.

Cost:

– Truck (40 euros) with trailer (50 euros)

– Minibus (30 euros) with a trailer (40 euros)

– Car (12 euros) with a trailer (20 euros)

– Motorcycle (2 euros)

– Pedestrian (1 euro)


Ferry crossing Calarasi (RO) - Silistra (BG)


Opening hours: open daily, seven days a week. Departure times may vary depending on the load:

– From Calarasi (RO) to Silistra (BG):  01.00, 4.15, 07.00, 10.15, 13.00, 16.15, 18.30, 22.15;

– From Silistra (BG) to Calarasi (RO): 01.30, 4.30, 07.30, 10.00, 13.30, 16.00, 19.30, 21.30.

Rules of use: The ferry crossing is for transport only.

Cost:

– Minibus (25 euros)

– Car (8 euros) with a trailer (15 euros)

– Motorcycle (2 euros)

Ferry crossing Turnu Magurele (RO) - Nikopol (BG)


Opening hours: Open daily, seven days a week. Departure time:

– From Turnu Magurele (RO) to Nikopol (BG):  08.00, 12.30, 16.30, 20.00;

– From Nikopol (BG) to Turnu Magurele (RO): 08.00, 12.00, 16.00, 19.30.

Rules of use: Both drivers and pedestrians can use the ferry crossing.

Cost:

– Minibus (30 euros)

– Car (10 euros) with a trailer (15 euros)

– Motorcycle (1 euro)

– Pedestrian (1 euro)


Ferry crossing Zimnicea (RO) - Svishtov (BG)


Opening hours: Open daily, seven days a week. Departure time:

– From Zimnicea (RO) to Svishtov (BG): 08.30, 11.30, 14.30, 17.30, 20.30;

– From Svishtov (BG) to Zimnicea (RO): 07.00, 10.00, 13.00, 14.00, 19.00.

Rules of use: Both drivers and pedestrians can use the ferry crossing.

Cost:

– Minibus (8-20 euros)

– Car (4-5 euros) with a trailer (4+8 euros)

– Motorcycle (3 euros)

– Pedestrian (1 euro)


Required documents for entering Romania by car


To enter the country, the driver must provide border guards with:


– international passport;

– driver's license

– vehicle registration documents;

– international insurance policy “Green Card”.


If any of these documents are missing, the person will not be allowed to cross the border. At the same time, in the absence of compulsory international insurance, the driver may be fined and banned from entering the country.
