The situation on the frontline has escalated in recent weeks as the russian army prepares for a major offensive this summer. However, despite the difficult situation, Ukrainian troops are not only retreating to more fortified positions, but are also trying to advance in some areas. What analysts and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, have to say about the situation at the front is described below.

In his recent statement, Syrskyi noted that russia is trying to seize the strategic initiative and break through the front line. To do this, it has concentrated its main efforts in several areas, creating a significant advantage in forces and means.

As the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, has already stated, Ukraine will face a difficult situation in the coming months.

What is happening on the frontline now?

As General Syrsky writes, the occupiers are attacking Ukrainian positions along the entire frontline. But there are areas where the russian army has concentrated more efforts. According to him, the enemy is active in the Kupyansk sector - near the villages of Stelmakhivka and Berestove.

"The enemy had a partial success there, but was stopped by the actions of our units," noted Syrsky.

It is also reported that in this section of the frontline, russian troops are trying to push the Ukrainian Armed Forces away from the Kupyansk-Svatove road and reach the bank of the Oskil River.

One of the most difficult situations is observed in the Kramatorsk sector, where Ivanivske and Chasiv Yar remain hotspots. In addition, the russians are trying to regain control of Klishchiyivka and reach the line along the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas Canal.

The situation is also complicated in the Pokrovske-Kurakhove direction. According to Syrsky, russia has deployed up to four brigades (approximately 20-25,000 troops) and is trying to develop an offensive west of Avdiivka and Maryinka, making its way to Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.

"In general, the enemy has achieved some tactical success in these areas, but failed to gain an operational advantage. Ukrainian troops are inflicting maximum losses on the enemy, both in personnel and military equipment," noted General Syrskyi.

As for the southern direction, the russians are also trying to advance on the territories liberated by Ukraine during last year's counter-offensive near the villages of Rabotyne and Staromayorske. According to Syrsky, the russians are not succeeding in these areas.

Ukraine is also advancing

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said that in some areas of the Armed Forces "we managed to improve the tactical situation". In particular, the Ukrainians managed to improve their tactical position in the area of Sinkivka (Kupyansk direction) and Serebryanske forestry (Lyman direction).

Moreover, in the Kherson region, Ukrainian units managed to establish control over the island of Nestryga. According to other commanders, the liberation of this island is a tactical success. The russians were setting up firing positions there to attack settlements on the right bank of the Kherson region.

We remind you! After a long break, the United States has allocated the first major military aid package for Ukraine. US President Joe Biden has already signed the funding document. We'll tell you what the new package includes and when the arms deliveries will begin here.
