MTPL Insurance is an insurance policy for owners of vehicles in Ukraine. It is aimed at compensating the damages that the victim receives during the road accident. The policy covers damage to the life, health and property of the accident participant.

Is it necessary to have an MTPL?

According to Article 21 of the Law "On Compulsory Civil Liability Insurance of Owners of Land Vehicles", when using a vehicle in traffic, the person who drives the car is required to have an insurance policy of OSCPV (car civil insurance).

Representatives of the National Police control whether drivers have a policy.

In the absence of an MTPL policy, a fine will be imposed on the driver.

Exempted from the mandatory registration of a motor vehicle policy:

- Participants in hostilities.

- Invalids of war, according to the Law.

- Disabled persons of the I group.

- Persons who drive a vehicle belonging to a disabled person of the 1st group in his presence.

Who is covered by the MTPL policy?

The MTPL Insurance policy insures a car, that is, the insured is the responsibility of any driver who drives a car on legal grounds.

The territory of the MTPL agreement is throughout Ukraine.

Can foreigners take out a motor vehicle policy?

As we have already understood, for citizens of Ukraine the MTPL policy is a mandatory document.

Foreigners can also purchase MTPL insurance on the territory of Ukraine, if they have a foreign registration vehicle. However, for vehicles registered outside of Ukraine, a motor vehicle certificate is NOT mandatory if they have a "Green Card" international insurance certificate for the entire period of their stay in Ukraine.

Importantly! For vehicles registered outside Ukraine, it is possible to purchase a civil license on the territory of Ukraine, but this is not mandatory.

For which cars can I issue an MTPL policy?

The following vehicles can be insured:

- Cars up to 1600 cm³ (inclusive).

- Passenger cars 1601-2000 cm³ (inclusive).

- Passenger cars 2001-3000 cm³ (inclusive).

- Passenger cars 3001 cm³ and more.

- Electric cars.

- Trailers.

- Buses up to 20 seats (inclusive).

- Buses with more than 20 seats.

- Trucks with a load capacity of more than 2 tons.

- Motorcycles and scooters up to 300 cm³ (inclusive).

- Trucks with a load capacity of more than 2 tons (inclusive).

- Trailers or semi-trailers for trucks.

- Motorcycles and scooters more than 300 cm³.

What does the MTPL policy cover?

● Property damage – limit of liability 160,000 UAH (per victim).

The insurance contract provides for reimbursement of the following costs:

- damage or complete destruction of the vehicle;

- damage or destruction of roads, road structures, etc.;

- damage or destruction of the victim's property;

- expenses for carrying out work necessary for rescuing victims of road accidents;

- evacuation of the vehicle from the scene of the accident.

● Damage caused to the life and health of the victims - the limit of liability is UAH 320,000 (per victim).

The insurance contract provides for reimbursement of expenses:

- for the treatment of the victim;

- in connection with the victim's temporary loss of working capacity;

- insurance compensation in case of permanent disability;

- in case of death of the victim.

What are the advantages of the MTPL policy?

The MTPL insurance policy compensates victims of road accidents. In other words, it covers the expenses of the culprit of the accident.

If the driver does not have this document, then in the event of an accident, he will have to pay all damages personally, as well as pay a fine for not having an insurance policy.

What is the deductible in the MTPL policy?

The cost of the policy depends on the amount of the deductible.

Deductible is the amount of money that the Insured (client) compensates the injured party in the event of an insured event, if property damage is caused.

The amount of the franchise is from 3,200 hryvnias to 0 hryvnias.

For what period can a motor vehicle policy be issued?

The term of the MTPL policy is 1 year.

The contract of the MTPL enters into force on the date specified in the document as the beginning of the validity of this contract.

The list of documents for the registration of an MTPL policy in Ukraine

- Driver's license or passport of the insured.

- Technical passport of the vehicle.

- Certificate of TIN of the insured.

- If the insured is a beneficiary (pensioner, participant in the liquidation of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant) - confirmation of the existence of a benefit.

2. Fill in the fields: the place of residence of the vehicle owner specified in the technical passport, the type of vehicle and the date of commencement of the contract.

3. Enter information about the car: license plate number, car make and model, year of manufacture, city of registration, VIN code and country of destination.

4. Enter your contact details: full name, contact number, passport details, date of birth, residential address, TIN and email address.

5. Confirm the entered information.
