The Ukrainian government has announced the launch of a pilot project to return refugees from abroad. Find out when it will be launched and what it will be about
In early 2025, Ukraine is launching a pilot project to return Ukrainians from abroad, Advisor to the President of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshyn said at the 7th German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin.
What does the project involve?
According to Kamyshyn, the pilot project for the return of Ukrainians will initially be launched between the state and Germany. According to him, they want to return Ukrainians, among other things, to engage them in the defence industry.
‘You have heard that we have recently announced that there will be a new ministry responsible for the unity of Ukrainians and the return of Ukrainians home. And Chernyshov - the Deputy Prime Minister - he was here today, and I would be happy to announce that together with him we are working on a programme to return Ukrainians to the defence industry of Ukraine,’ the presidential adviser announced.

Other refugee return programmes
Earlier, the Czech Republic launched a project to help refugees voluntarily return to Ukraine. It applies to both Ukrainians who have received a temporary protection visa as refugees from hostilities since 24 February 2022 and refugees who have already received international protection.
However, we have written that many Ukrainians who have found temporary shelter in the Czech Republic are not yet ready to return home.
Similar projects also operate in Norway, Switzerland, Finland, and Ireland. There, the authorities are ready to pay Ukrainians to return to their homeland.
We remind you! In 2025, EU countries will introduce significant changes to the rules of stay and social assistance for Ukrainian refugees.
