The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine gave an explanation regarding the organization of the 2022/2023 academic year in the country.

Duration of the academic year

In schools, the academic year will traditionally begin on the Day of Knowledge, September 1, 2022, ending on June 30, 2023.

Universities, colleges, and other vocational education institutions must independently determine the start and end dates of the academic year, however, the Government recommended that universities start their studies on August 15 (with the exception of the 1st course).

How is the educational institution prepared for the educational process?

A commission is created on the basis of the educational institution, which should also include representatives of the State Emergency Service and the National Police. The commission must determine the duration of the academic week and day, their structure, and choose the form of education, taking into account the peculiarities of the region of work, as well as the peculiarities of the students.

After checking the institution's readiness for the start of training, the commission draws up an act, which is approved by the head. The decision on the safety of the start of classes will be made by the regional military administration.

Face-to-face, distance, and mixed form of education - on what it depends

The main factor affecting the determination of the form of education is the level of security in each settlement.

Full-time study mode

In order to open its doors to students, an educational institution must meet a certain number of requirements:

• Availability of a bomb shelter that accommodates all students and teachers of the institution.

• Inspection of the facility and surrounding areas for the absence of explosive objects.

• A working notification system, including for children with visual and hearing impairments.

• Worked out and marked evacuation route.

• Stock of water and medicines in the shelter.

• Conducted training with students and teachers on actions in the event of an air alarm, as well as methods of providing first medical aid.

• If possible, Wi-Fi connection in shelters.

Mixed form of education

This method of educational institution operation can be approved if the school or university does not meet the full list of requirements, for example, the bomb shelter cannot accommodate all students and employees. In this case, the administration of the institution develops a mixed schedule, part of the students' classes will take place face-to-face, and others - remotely.

The remote form of education is approved in temporarily occupied territory, in areas of hostilities, as well as in educational institutions that cannot ensure the safety of students and teachers in accordance with the requirements of the full-time education system.

It is worth noting that the form of classes approved at the beginning of the academic year may be changed depending on the situation in a certain region.

Actions during an air alert

The most important condition for the operation of an educational institution is compliance with the conduct rules during an air raid. Students and teachers should immediately go to the shelter. If there is an opportunity, the training can be continued in the bomb shelter, if it is not possible, then after the danger has passed.
