In Ukraine, the average amount of insurance payments for compulsory motor insurance has increased significantly. According to the results of 2025, compensation for victims of road accidents increased by a third at once — this is one of the most significant jumps in recent years.

Average payment for compulsory motor insurance

According to the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine, in 2025, the average insurance payment for victims' claims reached UAH 45,050. This is 33% more than in 2024. The information is also provided by Ukravtoprom.

The MTIBU explains the increase by several factors: the introduction of updated provisions of the law on compulsory motor third-party liability insurance, the rise in the cost of car repairs, and an increase in the number of road accidents. As a result, insurance companies are compensating for losses more often and in larger amounts.

How much does a policy cost now?

At the same time, the cost of insurance itself has also increased. The average price of a motor third-party liability insurance policy in 2025 was 3,162.67 UAH, which is 132% higher than a year earlier (in 2024 — 1,361.77 UAH).

The insurance bureau notes that the increase in price is not only due to market trends. Insurers' adaptation to new legislative requirements played a significant role, resulting in increased operating costs for settling insurance claims and customer service support.

At the same time, the market as a whole remained fairly stable: in 2025, more than 7.4 million MTPL contracts were concluded, which is only 7.7% less than the previous year.

Leaders of the insurance market

In terms of the number of MTPL contracts concluded in 2025, TAS became the leader with 1,515,338 policies. Oranta and Knyazha Vienna Insurance Group took second and third place. These same insurers collected the largest amounts of insurance premiums.

They also became leaders in terms of the number of settled insurance claims after traffic accidents. TAS processed 23,735 claims for a total amount of UAH 1.1 billion. Oranta settled 21,369 claims for UAH 857.9 million, and Knyazha Vienna Insurance Group settled 16,139 claims for UAH 706.5 million.
