In Spain some train journeys will become free from September

Prices for public transport in Spain have already halved due to the rapid rise in energy prices and inflation. Now the government has announced 100% discounts on travel on some trains.
From September, passengers will be able to travel on various trains of the state-run Renf railway network absolutely free of charge. As the Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez emphasized, tickets for several trips on trains operated by public services of the Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distance network (equivalent to short and medium distance trips) will be free from September 1 until the end of the year.
The measure excludes the possibility of buying a single-trip ticket and traveling long distances. According to the public television channel TVE, the price of such tickets includes ten round trips.
Economy and care for the environment
This initiative encourages the maximum use of this type of public transport.
In the extraordinary circumstances of rising energy prices and inflation, people will be able to travel economically, comfortably and safely. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Transport.
The scheme was implemented shortly after the local government committed to a 50% reduction in transport charges for public carriers.
Spain is not the only European country that has taken measures to reduce public transport costs.
Last month, Germany issued a €9 ($9.50) unlimited monthly public transport pass that could be used on local and regional transport across the country. The corresponding program in Germany was valid until August 31.
