Immigration to Australia is possible and the following categories of applicants have the greatest chances of obtaining Australian citizenship:
- Qualified specialists in various fields;
- Businessmen who can prove the profitability of their business;
- Prominent persons: researchers, artists, musicians, painters, athletes, etc.;
- Applicants who have direct relatives who are Australian citizens.
- In addition to the listed aspects, immigration to Australia is also possible for those who are in refugee status. However, the government closely monitors this category of migrants and thoroughly checks them, so it is quite difficult to get such a status with the subsequent receipt of humanitarian aid and Australian citizenship.
A foreigner can apply for Australian citizenship after 4 years of legal residence in the country, the last 12 months as a permanent resident. Applicants for citizenship must pass an interview and pass a test. Before becoming a citizen, a future citizen must take an oath of allegiance to the state.

The citizenship test is also designed to assess knowledge of everyday English. English is the national language. The test for obtaining Australian citizenship is computerized, built on the principle of multiple choice and given in English. To pass the test, it is enough to answer 75 percent correctly. Citizenship tests are conducted at offices of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Tests are also conducted at various locations throughout Australia and at designated overseas missions.
Dual citizenship is allowed in Australia.
According to the law, a person can obtain Australian citizenship in four ways:
- By birth on Australian territory (by birth);
- In the process of adoption by Australian citizens (by adoption);
- By descent;
- By conferral.
An Australian citizen has a number of advantages over a "Permanent Resident of Australia", namely the right to:
- Live in Australia;
- Register as an Australian Citizen "by descent" any child of yours who was born both in the territory of Australia and outside the territory of Australia from the moment the father obtained this status.
- Obtain an Australian passport and cross the Australian border any number of times without the need to apply for a Resident Return Visa;
- Visa-free short-term stay in most countries of the world;

- The right to obtain employment at the State level, which requires the presence of Australian citizenship as a mandatory condition;
- To serve in the Australian Armed Forces.
Australian citizens also have the duty to:
- Accept and obey Australian Laws;
- Participate in elections and vote in them;
- In the event of hostilities, to defend Australia as part of conscription;
- If necessary, participate as a juror in the Court.
- Any person who has obtained the status of an Australian citizen has exactly the same rights and responsibilities as Australians born in Australia to Australian parents who obtained this status automatically.
