Permanent residency can be obtained through immigration due to:

Marriage to a Brazilian citizen
Family reunification
Being a high-level scientist or researcher
Through investment (individuals who invest a minimum of R$150,000 in a Brazilian company or real estate may qualify for a residence permit)
Being an administrator, manager or director of a professional or commercial corporation, startup.

In order to obtain a residence permit, it is necessary to

An application form filled out in person using the electronic form duly completed on the PF website (available on the Registration as a Foreigner in Brazil page);
1 3x4 photo taken within the last few months, in color, on a white background;
Declaration of e-mail address and other means of communication, preferably together with a simple copy of the proof of residence.
Valid proof of identity and citizenship.
Original copy of the visa application form;
Proof of payment of the CRNM issuance fee - (National Migration Registry Card) National Migration Registry Card, which is an identity card for foreigners (income code 140120, cost R$204.77), if required (for the issuance of the Union Collection Guide).
National identity document of the person invited (from the country of nationality, for family reunification visa)

Certificate of residence as an investor VITEM IX

To obtain permanent residency in Brazil, a retired or financially independent applicant, according to current immigration law, must provide documentary proof of an annual guaranteed income of at least 72,000 Brazilian R$ (+-168). These are the requirements for a family of three.

For each additional family member, an additional annual income of BRL 24,000 (+-5,600 euros) is required.

In order to obtain permanent residency in Brazil as an investor, according to the current immigration law, you must

Invest 150,000 reais (35,000 euros) in Brazil. The investment can be made in an existing Brazilian company or in a newly created company;
Provide documentary proof of sufficient funds to reside in Brazil; obtain an initial favorable decision from the Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego.

If your child is a Brazilian citizen, you may apply for a permanent residence visa at the Ministry of Justice (through the Federal Police Office) or at an embassy or consulate. The child must be financially dependent on the applicant and under the applicant's care.

The permanent residence visa may also cover the applicant's dependent relatives, such as the applicant's wife, children under the age of 21 (or 24 if they are pursuing higher education), or their parents. Family members will receive the same visa as the applicant. However, keep in mind that the applicant's relatives cannot obtain a work permit in Brazil.

If you are married to a Brazilian citizen, you can apply for a permanent residence permit at the Ministry of Justice through the Federal Police Office or at a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate. You must provide a marriage certificate and witness statements. Prepare for a possible surprise visit from immigration officials who want to make sure the union is not a sham in order to obtain a residency permit.

Holders of this type of visa must register with the Federal Police within 90 days of first entering Brazil. The documents must be translated into Portuguese.

You can apply for Brazilian citizenship only in Brazil. The application standards are established by the Minister of Justice's Order No. 703 of June 13, 1995, issued by the DIÁRIO OFICIAL DA UNIÃO.

Options for obtaining citizenship:

Legal residence in Brazil for four years.
Legal residence in Brazil for three years if you own real estate in Brazil.
Legal residence in Brazil for two years if you have a good reputation as a qualified professional, scientist or cultural figure.
Legal residence in Brazil for one year if you are one of the parents of a child, a Brazilian citizen.
Children born in Brazil acquire Brazilian citizenship automatically.

The documents for obtaining Brazilian citizenship should be prepared and submitted to the Department of Registration (Divisão de Nacionalidade e Naturalização do Ministério da Justiça). Minor children who are included in the application are automatically granted citizenship. After a positive decision is made, you will receive a certificate of citizenship, which allows you to obtain a Brazilian passport.

Citizenship if you have a work visa

You can obtain citizenship if you have a work visa. The visa is issued for two years, and after two years, if the employee has not changed his/her position or committed a crime, the visa is extended for another two years. At the end of the fourth year, the employee can convert this visa into a permanent one. Under the terms of a work visa, foreigners can bring their spouses and children to Brazil, but family members are not allowed to work until the foreigner's visa is converted into a permanent visa.

A work visa is a long process for obtaining citizenship, you will have to wait four years to get a permanent residence permit, and then another four years before you can naturalize and obtain Brazilian citizenship.

Citizenship by marriage

It is possible to obtain citizenship by marriage to a Brazilian citizen. You will first need to obtain a tourist visa, then register your marriage in Brazil and start the process of obtaining permanent residence on the basis of marriage.

Once the marriage is registered, you can apply for permanent residence at the local Federal Police station. The process of verification and data processing can take from several months to two years, although in small towns it is much faster. During the paperwork process, the local police may visit you once or twice to make sure that the marriage is not a sham.

If you need to travel abroad for a short time or will be away from your place of permanent residence for some time, this is possible, but you must notify the Federal Police.

After one year of residence in Brazil after obtaining permanent residence by marriage, you can apply for naturalization. You may not be absent from the country for more than 30 days at a time or a total of 90 days in several trips. In this case, the naturalization period will not be counted and you will have to wait another year to apply for citizenship again.

Foreign nationals who have lived in Brazil for more than 15 years

According to the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil (Article 12, II, b), foreign nationals without a criminal record who have lived in Brazil for more than fifteen consecutive years can obtain Brazilian citizenship if they request it. No other conditions are required.

Brazil does not prohibit dual citizenship.
