Norway continues to provide Ukrainians with temporary collective protection, which allows them to reside legally in the country, receive social assistance, and enjoy basic rights.
Permits are typically issued for a period of 1 year with the possibility of renewal.
New rules for Ukrainians in Norway (2026)
In 2026, the Norwegian government changed the rules for granting protection.
Men aged 18 to 60 no longer receive automatic temporary protection. Now they must:
- apply for asylum through the general procedure;
- undergo an individual case review.
The restrictions do not apply to:
- persons exempt from military service;
- people with medical contraindications;
- participants in medical evacuations;
- men who are single parents.
The changes also do not apply to Ukrainians who have already been granted protection.
How to obtain temporary protection in Norway
You can submit an application:
- at a police station;
- at the National Reception Center.
