Spouse of a Singapore citizen
A foreign spouse of a Singapore citizen can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) after marriage under the sponsorship of their Singapore citizen spouse. ICA will assess the foreign spouse’s eligibility for LTVP Plus (LTVP+) during the LTVP application. There is no separate application for LTVP+. You may refer to the FAQs for more details on LTVP+ and LTVP+ benefits.
Spouse of a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
A foreign spouse of a Singapore PR can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) after marriage under the sponsorship of his/her PR spouse.
Unmarried child (aged under 21) born within the context of a legal marriage to, or has been legally adopted by a Singapore citizen/Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
An unmarried child (aged under 21) who is either born within the context of a legal marriage to, or has been legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen or PR can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) under the sponsorship of the Singapore citizen or PR parent.
Parent of a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)
Parent(s) of a Singapore citizen or PR can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) under the sponsorship of their Singapore citizen or PR child (above 21 years old).
Note: Parent(s)-in-law of a Singapore citizen or PR are not eligible to apply for a LTVP under their sponsorship.
Graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning seeking employment in Singapore
A graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to seek employment in Singapore. No sponsor is required for the LTVP application.
Mother or Grandmother of a child or grandchild studying in Singapore on a Student’s Pass
A mother or grandmother of a child/grandchild on a Student’s Pass and studying in eligible schools in Singapore can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). A local sponsor, who is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) above 21 years old, is required for the LTVP application.
Visitor seeking permission to give birth in Singapore
A female visitor can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to seek permission to give birth in Singapore. A local sponsor, who is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) above 21 years old, is required for the LTVP application.
Fees
A S$30 non-refundable processing fee is applicable for each application.
Payment can be made using:
- Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card or,
- American Express (AMEX) credit card or,
- Internet Direct Debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and Standard Chartered Bank Internet accounts in Singapore) or,
- PayNow
Note: Additional fees will apply if the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) application is granted in-principle approval.
Processing Time
All LTVP applications are carefully considered and reviewed by ICA. New and renewal Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) will be processed within six weeks*, provided all the required documents are submitted.
You will be informed of the outcome of the LTVP application via email. You may also check the LTVP application status online through MyICA or the e-Service.
You are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship if you:
1. Have been a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) for at least two years and are aged 21 and above (you can apply together with your spouse and any unmarried children aged below 21 born to you within the context of a legal marriage or legally adopted by you).
2. Have been a PR for at least two years and have been married to a Singapore citizen for at least two years.
3. Are an unmarried child aged below 21 born within the context of a legal marriage to, or have been legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen.
4. Are a PR studying in Singapore; and have been residing/living in Singapore for more than 3 years (of which, at least one year as a PR); and have passed at least one national exam (i.e. PSLE, GCE ‘N’/‘O’/‘A’ levels), or are in the Integrated Programme (IP).
5. Are a PR and an Aged Parent of a Singapore citizen.
ICA has no affiliation with any other external migration agency which claims to be the Singapore immigration specialist/consultant or partner. ICA does not support or endorse services by self-proclaimed professional immigration consultancy service providers for Singapore Citizenship application.
ICA takes into account factors such as the individual's family ties to Singaporeans, economic contributions, qualifications, age, family profile and length of residency, to assess the applicant's ability to contribute to Singapore and integrate into our society, as well as his or her commitment to sinking roots.
National Service Obligation
Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents, unless exempted1, are required to serve National Service (NS). Following the completion of full-time NS, they will become Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen). An NSman’s obligation will end at the age of 50 years (for Officers) or 40 years (for other ranks).
NS-liable persons are required to register for NS upon reaching 16 1/2 years old and will be scheduled for enlistment at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old. MINDEF allows students to attain educational qualifications up to the ‘A’ Levels certificate, the polytechnic diploma or an equivalent before they are required to serve NS. They are enlisted at the earliest opportunity when they have finished such courses, or after turning 18 years old, whichever is later. MINDEF does not grant deferment for university studies, regardless of whether such studies have begun. All male applicants are required to access for information on NS deferment, pre-enlistment process and Exit Permit requirements, before proceeding with the application.
Fees
All processing fees will be charged online when you apply. Successful applicants pay additional fees at the time of registration. Online fees are paid using:
- Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card or,
- American Express (AMEX) credit card or,
- Internet Direct Debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB, and Standard Chartered Bank Internet Banking in Singapore) or,
- Paynow.

Procedure
All Singapore Citizenship applications must be submitted online using the e-Service. Please prepare the required documents provided in the document checklists for submission online via the e-Service.
You will require a Singpass account to submit an application. If you are applying under the sponsorship of your spouse/Singapore citizen parent, your sponsor would need to log in via his/her Singpass account.
Processing Time
Singapore Citizenship applications usually take 12 months to process. For children born overseas to Singapore citizens, the general processing time is within two months from receipt of complete documents. We will process your application upon receiving all required documents. We strive to meet the following processing time but seek your understanding that some applications may take longer to process.
To check the application status or view application status updates, the main applicant/sponsor can log in to MyICA. For any clarifications or status updates, ICA will send an email to the main applicant/sponsor. Please provide a valid email address at the time of application.
Approval
Successful applicants will receive an Approval in Principle letter to complete the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ)*. On completion of the SCJ, applicants will receive the final approval letter indicating the appointment date and time to register for Singapore Citizenship.
