Summer is the perfect time to discover a new side of Ukraine. The Carpathian mountain pastures, the thermal springs of Zakarpattia, Hutsul cuisine, and the pristine lakes of Volyn attract thousands of travelers from all over the country every year. The Visit Ukraine portal has prepared a selection of ready-made tours covering the most interesting summer destinations, ranging from one-day trips to week-long journeys.

Transcarpathia in the summer: thermal pools, castles, and culinary tastings

The Zakarpattia region remains one of the most popular summer destinations in Ukraine thanks to its mild climate, Hungarian-Hutsul charm, and abundance of thermal springs. For those who want to explore this region thoroughly, there are several itineraries of varying lengths.

The “Carpathian Highlights in 5 Days” tour offers a packed itinerary with stops in Chynadiyevo, where you can visit the medieval St. Miklos Castle, and in Mukachevo with its “Karpatiya” water park. Participants will taste homemade jam and sausages in the village of Botar, visit a deer farm and the “Highland” ranch in Iza with a snail tasting, and in the evening, they’ll soak in the thermal pools of Kosyno and Velyatino. The itinerary also includes bathing in vats in Lumshory, a walk through Shenborn Park in Voevodino, a tour of Nevytsky Castle, and a tasting of Transcarpathian wines in the Berehove volcanic lowlands.

The five-day tour “Travel to Sunny Transcarpathia” begins in Lutsk and Lviv and leads through the Synevyr Pass to the brown bear rehabilitation center, the “Valley of Wolves” eco-park, and the legendary Lake Synevyr. A separate day is set aside for the “Highland” ranch, featuring a snail tasting and relaxation at the “Rikka Khust” thermal spa complex. Participants will also climb Mount Hymba, see the Shipit Waterfall, and ride the Carpathian Tram in Vyhoda—an atmospheric narrow-gauge railway through the mountains.

The three-day “Unique Transcarpathia” itinerary is designed for those who want to cover Transcarpathia’s main attractions in a shorter time. Day one features a cable car ride to the Borzhava mountain pastures in Mizhhiria, the brown bear rehabilitation center, and Lake Synevyr. The second day features Palanok Castle in Mukachevo, the “Kosyno” thermal complex with seven pools and seven saunas, as well as a tasting of Transcarpathian wines. The third day includes a tour of Uzhhorod or a visit to the “Karpatiya” water park and a tour of Chynadiyevo Castle or the Schönborn Palace.

Active recreation in the Carpathians: jeeping, rafting, and mountain pastures

The Carpathians in summer offer not only scenic views and wine tastings but also a full-fledged adrenaline-fueled experience. Two itineraries are designed specifically for those seeking an active program with elements of extreme adventure.

The three-day “Crazy Carpathians” tour starts from Lutsk, Rivne, Ternopil, or Ivano-Frankivsk and immediately plunges you into adventure: a jeep tour through the Carpathian peaks with photo spots and a swing, a zip-line ride up to 500 meters long, and a visit to the trembita museum in Verkhovyna. The second day features a hike to the summit of Bila Kobyla through the mountain pastures, with a tasting of Hutsul cheeses in a kolyba and a dip in open-air vats. The trip concludes with rafting on the Black Cheremosh River, a visit to a craft brewery in Verkhovyna, and fishing at a trout farm with a lunch of fresh fish.

The “3-Day Carpathian Foothills + Verkhovyna” tour combines active and cultural elements. On the first day, participants will go jeeping to the Makovytsia mountain pasture, taste Hutsul cheeses and liqueurs, visit the souvenir market in Yaremche, and see the Probi Waterfall—one of the most powerful in the Carpathians. The second day is entirely dedicated to Verkhovyna: rafting on the Black Cheremosh River, a tour of a cheese factory, a visit to a trembita player, the “Shtopor” museum with wine tasting, a folklore evening titled “Hutsul Wedding” featuring music and traditional rituals, and the day ends with a bath in therapeutic tubs filled with Carpathian herbs. The third day is Bukovel with its cable car, the Hutsul Land theme park, the VODA Club spa complex, and the upside-down house.

Carpathian itineraries for a week or a weekend: from Synevyr to Bukovel

You can tailor the duration of your summer trip through the Carpathians to your schedule: the Visit Ukraine portal offers both two-day weekend itineraries and a full-fledged week-long vacation.

The “Around the Carpathians in 7 Days” tour is the most extensive route in the selection. The trip begins with a cable car ride up Mount Hymba and a visit to the Shipit Waterfall in Pylypets. The tour concludes in Bukovel—cable car, Hutsul Land, “Mavka” water park—and in Yaremche with its waterfall and souvenirs.

The two-day tour “Borzhava, Synevyr + Rikka Khust” is perfect for a quick getaway. Day one: a hike to the legendary mountain lake Synevyr and relaxation at the modern Rikka Khust thermal complex with heated pools, a spa, and saunas. Day two: a climb up Mount Hymba along the Borzhava Ridge, the Shipit Waterfall, and lunch by the waterfall.

Mavka Water Park in Bukovel and a beach getaway at the Shatsk Lakes

A summer vacation in Ukraine also means water, beaches, and complete relaxation without long drives.

The “Mavka Water Park in Bukovel + Yaremche” tour combines a visit to one of the country’s newest water parks with a stroll through Yaremche—a renowned health resort in the Prut River valley. Participants will see the cascading Probiy Waterfall and the legendary wooden restaurant “Hutsulshchyna,” while at the “Mavka” water park, water attractions and comfortable relaxation areas await them.

The “Shatsk Lakes. Vacation on Lake Svityaz” tour is designed for four days of authentic beach relaxation. Participants will stay at the “Svityaz Center” resort on the lake’s shore amidst the forest. The program includes swimming in the clear waters of Lake Svitiaz, a walking tour titled “Shatsk Lakes — The Pearl of Volhynia,” and an optional kayaking trip through the “Polissya Jungle” — a route through the picturesque Luka-Peremut Lakes with a stop at the floating island of Bazhan.
