The Ukrainian Carpathians feature dozens of peaks, hundreds of waterfalls, and countless picturesque mountain meadows, each offering its own unique panorama. For those who want to experience the mountains from different angles, there are organized tours of varying lengths and difficulty levels—ranging from one-day hikes to multi-day treks along the ridges. All that’s left is to choose the route that’s right for you.

Which tours let you see the best Carpathian panoramas and what awaits participants on each one—we’ll tell you more in this article.

The Highest Peaks of the Carpathians: Hoverla and Yavirnyk-Gorgan

The panoramic view from the summit is what draws many travelers to the Carpathians. The most popular option is the “3-Day Hoverla” tour, which lasts three days and includes an ascent to Ukraine’s highest point (2,061 m). The route begins with a visit to the Manyava Skete—an ancient 17th-century monastery—and a jeep ride to the Manyava Waterfall. On the second day, participants choose between climbing Hoverla and a jeep ride to the Yagidna mountain pasture with ATV riding. The third day is dedicated to Bukovel with its cable car, offering sweeping Carpathian panoramas, a visit to the interactive museum of Hutsul culture “Hutsul-Land,” and a tour along the trails of Oleksa Dovbush. The route ends in Yaremche—near the Probiy Waterfall and at the souvenir market featuring crafts by local artisans.

For those ready for an early start and wanting to complete the trip in a single day, the “Hike to Yavirnyk-Gorgan” is a good fit. This is a one-day route from Chernivtsi to the summit of Yavirnyk-Gorgan along picturesque trails through mountain meadows dotted with colorful cottages. Hikers take a break in the meadow, and the views from the summit are worth getting up at five in the morning for.

Svidovets Range: Mountain Lakes and Panoramic Routes

Svidovets is one of the most photogenic ranges in the Carpathians, known for its glacial mountain lakes. The “Hike through Svidovets” tour lasts two days and passes through the mountains of Stig (1,704 m), Velykyi Kotel (1,770 m), and Blyznytsia (1,881 m)—the highest point of the range. Participants will see Lake Dogiaska, and from the summit of Blyznytsia, a full panorama of Svidovets opens up. The route ends with a descent to the village of Kvasy, where you can taste authentic Burkut mineral water and visit the local brewery and cheese factory.

A more in-depth exploration of Svidovets is offered by the three-day tour “Svidovets: To the Land of Mountain Lakes”. The first day involves a hike across Mount Bukovynka to the Dragobrat mountain pasture, with the opportunity to visit Lake Ivor at an altitude of 1,600 m. The second day is dedicated to the Krachuneska mountain pasture and Lake Vorozheska (1,460 m), which consists of two bodies of water with crystal-clear water. A determined group can also reach Lake Gereshaska at an altitude of 1,755 m. On the third day, participants will climb Bliznytsia (1,883 m) and then descend through the Brailka mountain pasture to the village of Kvasy. The route passes through landscapes formed by glacial cirques—it is here that Svidovets reveals its full beauty.

Gorgan Waterfalls and Active Recreation in the Carpathians

The Gorgany are famous not only for their rock fields but also for their numerous waterfalls. The two-day tour “Crystal Waterfalls of the Gorgany” is a 25-km hiking route through the Manyavsky and Bukhtivetsky waterfalls. The first day leads along a forest road to the Manyavsky waterfall, followed by an ascent to the Komarniki mountain pasture and a descent into the Bukhtivets River valley. On the second day, participants will see two Bukhtivets waterfalls (one about 10 meters high) and walk through a picturesque valley to the village of Pasichna. The route is easy and requires no prior preparation.

A much more extensive option is the three-day tour “Hike in the Gorgany: Syvulia, Peklo, Waterfalls”. The first day introduces the Tavpishyrka Ridge, the high-altitude arboretum, and the mountain meadows with observation decks. On the second day, the plan is to climb Syvulia (1,836 m)—the highest peak of the Gorgany massif—and visit the Peklo ravine with its 100-meter cliff and the Salatruchil waterfall. The third day is a leisurely one, dedicated to waterfalls: the two-tiered Roztoka Verkhniy, the 8-meter-high Bukhtivetskyi waterfall, and the Krapelkovyi waterfall, where the water breaks into a million tiny droplets. Weather permitting, the itinerary includes a visit to the 16th-century Pnivsky Castle.

For those seeking a Carpathian getaway without strenuous hikes, there is a four-day “Weekend Tour: Summer Carpathian Vibe” based in Yaremche. The program includes a city tour with a visit to the Probiy Waterfall, a trip to Bukovel and the “Hutsuland” ethnopark, a hike to the Zhenetsky Guk and Narinetsky waterfalls on the Zalim mountain pasture, as well as a jeep tour to the Makovytsia mountain pasture with a tasting of Hutsul cheeses—budz, vurda, and brynza. The program also features a high swing with a panoramic view, a suspension bridge, and the 100-year-old “Valakh” spruce, standing 38 meters tall.
