The authorities of the Polish capital are creating a map of bomb shelters. It should include garages, basements of stadiums, schools, hotels, private houses, shopping and entertainment centers. Warsaw has 7 million square meters of space, which in case of danger can become a shelter for its residents and guests.

There are no legal regulations regarding bomb shelters in Poland. At the same time, the local authorities emphasize the premises above which there is at least 50-60 centimeters of reinforced concrete construction. It is believed that they can withstand the detonation of the projectile. According to reports, bomb shelters must withstand 240 minutes of continuous fire.

Bomb shelters in Warsaw are not a cause for panic

The city authorities do not want to sow panic among the masses. The purpose of the measures is to determine the potential of the city in the event of a military threat.

According to Michal Domaradzki, the head of the Warsaw security service, it is not about bunkers, but about underground hiding places. Every resident of the city should know where to wait for danger. The local government wants to be prepared for all possible scenarios.

Since July 1, 2004, there is no concept of a protective structure in Polish legislation. According to the law, the inventory, care and reconstruction of such premises are not part of the responsibilities of local self-government bodies. There are also no equipment standards and technical requirements for shelters. So the local government took it upon itself to conduct an inventory of the shelters. As wyborcza.pl writes, many rooms were found that are suitable for hiding in extreme cases.

In particular, at a press conference on October 18, the mayor of the city, Rafal Tszaskowski, said that in the course of the inventory, more than 2,100 objects with underground infrastructure were discovered on the territory of Warsaw, including in the area of the metro and the national stadium, but the development of the plan is impossible without legislative changes.

Warsaw is the only Polish city with a subway

The head of the security service believes that the metro in the capital of Poland is a great advantage. As Domaradzky assures, the capital has at least 7 million square meters of space where you can hide. The calculations also took into account the area of metro stations and the number of people that trains can accommodate.

Each person has a minimum of 2 square meters. So it can be concluded that there is enough space in the Polish capital to hide all residents if necessary.
