Ukrainians in the Czech Republic: what changes are expected for refugees in 2023
The Czech Republic has officially extended the Temporary Protection for Refugees Directive until March 2024. However, in the near future it is planned to change the rules for Ukrainians and make amendments to the current law.
Residence periods of refugees in gyms and hotels in the Czech Republic
In the new amendments to the law, it is proposed to establish terms for the residence of Ukrainians in temporary shelters in the Czech Republic.
Thus, refugees can live:
• in gyms for up to 30 days,
• in hotel rooms - no more than 150 days.
Importantly! You can't live first 30 days in a gym, and then another 150 in a hotel. Each subsequent day after 150 days from the time of check-in, must be paid in full.
Social payments to refugees
It is also noted that the updated law provides for the deprivation of social benefits for Ukrainians. This means that now refugees will not be able to count on financial assistance for children, low-income families and large families.
Compensation to families providing housing to refugees from Ukraine
In addition, it is planned to increase compensation for families who host refugees.
We will remind, today housing providers receive 250-350 crowns per day. The new law provides for an increase in the rate to 300-400 crowns (12-16 euros).
Continuation of temporary protection status
Two variants of the procedure for extending temporary protection for Ukrainians are being considered.
The first is online registration on the website and a personal visit to the office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic to obtain a new visa sticker.
The second option involves only online re-registration without the need to visit the office.
Medical insurance for refugees
The issue of whether Ukrainians will be able to receive free medical insurance and the right to monetary humanitarian aid in the new year of 2023 is also under consideration.
When will the new law come into force?
It is planned that the draft law will enter into force in January 2023. A final decision on the new edits will be made soon. We will definitely write about the innovation on our website.
We will remind you! Earlier, we wrote about the new rules for the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland in 2023. You can familiarize yourself with the changes by following the link.
