Electronic documents are not only actively used by Ukrainians within the borders of their state, but also make it easier to move around European countries.

Thus, on the basis of Diia.pl, Ukrainians can cross the Polish border, i.e. leave Poland to Ukraine and return or visit other countries of the Schengen Agreement. Poland has already notified the EU member states and associated countries of the Schengen zone of the relevant decision.

What is Diia.pl?

The Polish authorities have approved two types of documents confirming the right of Ukrainians to reside in the Republic of Poland:

• certificate of temporary protection issued by the Main Directorate for Foreign Citizens;

• an electronic document in the Diia.pl mobile application.

The Diia.pl document is available through the mObywat mobile application. Detailed instructions on how to get a digital document via the link.

How to travel to Ukraine with Diia.pl?

Everything is quite simple, you just need to have a valid Diia.pl certificate in the mobile application on your smartphone and a travel document, for example, a foreign passport.

How to travel in EU countries with Diia.pl?

A Diia.pl certificate and a foreign passport are also sufficient for traveling in the countries of the Schengen Agreement. However, staying in countries on the basis of a residence permit in Poland is allowed only for a period of 90 days every 180 days.

Is it possible to visit other countries in Europe and the world with Diia.pl?

The Diia.pl certificate is valid only for trips to EU countries and when returning to Poland from Ukraine.

Also, please note that there is no right to cross the border solely on the basis of the PESEL number. Thus, for comfortable trips, you need to have one of two documents confirming your right to reside in Poland (certificate from the Main Office for Foreigners or Diia.pl electronic document). It is impossible to provide a certificate from the administration in electronic form, only its paper copy is valid.

Diia.pl for children

People who have a PESEL UKR number and have created a trusted profile can generate a Diia.pl document in the mObywat application. According to Polish law, adults and children over the age of 13 can create a trusted profile.

Therefore, children over the age of 13 can create Diia.pl and travel according to the same rules as adults - if they have a Diia.pl electronic document and a travel document, for example, a foreign passport.

However, we draw your attention to the fact that a different package of documents is required for identification of a minor and crossing the border than for an adult:

• the child's identity can be confirmed on the basis of a biometric passport or other document that will confirm the child's crossing of the border after February 24, 2022, and an issued PESEL UKR.

• a minor can re-enter Poland only on the condition of staying in Ukraine for less than 30 days and on the basis of a biometric passport with a stamp confirming the crossing of the border by the child after February 24, 2022, and an issued PESEL UKR.

• children can travel in the countries of the Schengen Agreement only on the basis of a biometric passport and in accordance with the rules of the visa-free regime - for a period of 90 days every 180 days.

We will remind you! Previously, we wrote about the visa-free regime for Ukrainians with biometric passports. Read more about this in our material at the link.
