Like many other countries of the world, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Slovakia has been generously helping Ukrainian refugees.

Previously, emigrants from Ukraine had the right to travel around Bratislava by public transport for free. Due to the new rules, this opportunity will no longer be available to Ukrainians.

Changes in the rules for refugees: abolition of free travel

According to the changes in the rules, from January 1, 2023, free travel by public transport in Bratislava will become unavailable to Ukrainian refugees.

It is also noted that displaced persons will have the right to use public transport services completely free of charge only on the day of receipt of documents on the status of temporary protection and during the next 4 days.

In addition, free travel remains available to persons who have a special SLOVAK HELP document with a red stamp with text in Ukrainian, which is issued when crossing the UA-SK state border.

Who will continue to be allowed to use public transport in Slovakia for free?

• To schoolchildren. For this, it is necessary to have a confirmation of temporary shelter and a document regarding school attendance.

• People accompanying schoolchildren on the road;

• To persons who are officially employed in Bratislava, but only within 2 months after registration of temporary protection status. For this, it is necessary to present a confirmation from the employer about the employment contract.

We will remind you! Earlier, we talked about the reduction of cash payments for Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic. You can read more about the changes in the rules at the link.
