The Ministry of Education in Ireland has introduced Ukrainian as an optional subject in schools. Find out more about when Ukrainian students will be able to choose their mother tongue for studying
Ukrainian will soon be taught in Irish schools. This was reported on the website of the Association of Ukrainians in Ireland.
It is noted that the Ministry of Education in the country has introduced the Ukrainian language as an optional subject in local schools.
In particular, Ukrainian students who will enter the fifth grade in September 2023 will be able to choose Nightingale as an optional subject.
It is noted that the decision to introduce a new subject took place after thousands of Ukrainians arrived in Ireland with the outbreak of a full-scale war. Currently, 15,000 Ukrainian children are registered there, 5,200 of whom are enrolled in secondary school.
Also, over the past year, about 100 Ukrainian primary school teachers have been admitted to the register of the Teaching Council.
The Minister of Education of Ireland, Norma Foley, said that an Irish school for young Ukrainians is a place where they can escape from worries, focus on their studies and find new friends.
In addition, the State Examination Commission in Ireland fulfills requests for the possibility of conducting exams in educational institutions for foreigners of EU countries in their native language.
As you know, Ukraine is not yet a member of the EU, but we are on the right track and the European Commission has launched our application.
We remind you! Since April, thousands of refugees in Ireland have been at risk of eviction. On April 1, the government of Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar will lift the ban on evictions that had been in place during the winter. For more information, please follow the link.
