Ukrainian refugees continue to choose Germany as the most popular country for migration due to its strong social support. Currently, there are more than a million IDPs in Germany who were forced to leave Ukraine because of the war.

To stay in Germany and receive social and financial support from the state, refugees need to apply for temporary protection. We'll tell you whether Germany will grant asylum to those who have already taken advantage of temporary protection in another EU country.

What should you do if you have applied for temporary protection in another EU country but decide to go to Germany?

According to the German-Ukrainian association Ukrainian Future, Germany provides for the possibility of granting protection to those who have already benefited from temporary protection in another EU country.

In particular, according to the German Migration Service (BAMF), the decision on whether to accept or reject immigrants is based on the discretion of the individual official who checks the documents.

"Ukrainian Future" advises refugees to obtain a written waiver of protection in another EU country, although this does not guarantee a successful asylum process in Germany.

According to the organization, although an individual approach is ensured by decision-making at the municipal level, there is no guarantee for refugees that they will be accepted after they have already applied for protection in another country.

Please note! Officially, Germany has not imposed restrictions on the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees after they have received temporary protection in another country, as the Czech Republic and Poland have done.

Firstly, in order to receive a response to your request, you need to contact the German Migration Service with a request for admission and conditions of admission before officially applying for protection. You should include your name and surname.

You will receive a response to your data and, if it is positive, you will receive a confirmation.

Furthermore, you should write in German or English to the following address: [email protected].

Earlier, we wrote that the Federal States of Germany agreed not to extend the grace period for the use of cars with Ukrainian registration. After a year in Germany, Ukrainian citizens will have to register their cars. For more details, please follow the link.

We remind you! The absence of air travel reduces the number of possible ways to get to Ukraine. However, the country's land borders are open, so we have prepared routes to enter Ukraine from Germany.
