In a recent match against Germany, the players of the Ukrainian national football team once again demonstrated that they are able to compete with the top teams in Europe. Find out when else the Ukrainian team has demonstrated a spectacular result against the best teams
On June 12, the Ukrainian national football team played a friendly match with the German national team, which was the thousandth game in its history. In this match, the Ukrainians with their new coach demonstrated that they are in great shape and ready to compete with the best teams in Europe. Here's how the recent match went down and a look back at when the Ukrainian national team was so good against the top teams.
The match between Germany and Ukraine took place on Monday, June 12, at 19:00 in the German city of Bremen.
This match, despite the status of a friendly, was special for the two national teams, as Germany was playing its thousandth anniversary match, and the Ukrainians were playing their first game under the auspices of a new coach, Ukrainian football legend Serhiy Rebrov.
At the same time, it is worth noting that the match for our national team was held in preparation for the official matches with North Macedonia and Malta (Euro 2024 qualifiers), which will take place on June 16 and 19.
The game between Ukraine and Germany ended with a score of 3:3, although the Ukrainians led 1-3 until the 83rd minute. The match proved that our national team is in good shape ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, which will be hosted by Germany.
Ukrainian coach Serhiy Rebrov can also be congratulated on a pretty good start to his career with the national team.
Without Zinchenko, but with Mudryk and Yarmolenko
The match in Bremen, unfortunately, took place without one of the leaders of the Ukrainian team, Oleksandr Zinchenko (who plays for Arsenal London), who is still healing his injury sustained in the last rounds of the English Premier League (EPL).
As you know, last season Zinchenko and co. played excellent football in the Premier League, finishing second in the standings.
Despite Zinchenko's absence, the Ukrainian team in the match with the Germans was equipped with the stars of Chelsea London Mykhailo Mudryk, Spanish Girona Victor Tsygankov and former player of the UAE club Al Ain Andriy Yarmolenko.
These players have demonstrated that they are capable of playing the kind of interesting football that the newly minted coach Serhiy Rebrov wants to implement.
In the match against Germany, Tsygankov became the player of the match, scoring a double and passing the ball to Mudryk, although the goal was still counted as an auto-goal by the German defender.
Given that the Ukrainian team showed a decent result against the Germans, we decided to recall when the Ukrainian national team shone so well in matches against the top teams in Europe.

Ukraine - Portugal (2020)
Three years ago, during the Euro 2020 qualifiers, the Ukrainian national team beat Portugal in Kyiv. Ukrainian fans will probably remember that match for a long time.
In the qualifiers for Euro 2020, the Ukrainian team did not lose a single match, and played a zero-zero draw away from home with its main group rival Portugal, and then beat them 2-1 at home. Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk scored the goals for Ukraine.
Ukraine - France (2013)
The most legendary two-match confrontation between Ukraine and France, which began fabulously for our national team, but ended incredibly painful.
In 2013, the teams met in head-to-head matches for Euro 2014. The first match ended with a phenomenal result for the Ukrainian national team - our players beat the French 2-0 at home.
That match was an example of how the Ukrainian team should play football with the top teams.
Despite the 2-0 victory, the Ukrainians failed to qualify for the Euro playoffs, as they lost the return match in France with a score of 3-0.
Ukraine - Germany (2011)
Another match against the Germans, which took place in 2011 on the occasion of the opening of the NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium in Kyiv. That match also ended 3-3, but the goals that were scored in that match are likely to be remembered by all Ukrainian and German fans.
For us, a significant episode in this match was the long-range shot by midfielder Serhiy Nazarenko, which brought the goal to the Ukrainian national team.
This game will also go down in the history of matches against top teams, in which the Ukrainians demonstrated high-quality and efficient football.
We continue to support our national team and believe that it will continue to show only high-quality and efficient football. We wish our players only victories and decent results that will help the Ukrainian national team make it to Euro 2024.
We remind you! We wrote about how Ukrainian football legends support their country during a full-scale war with russia. Read more about it here.
