Last Sunday, October 15, parliamentary elections were held in Poland, which should determine the country's strategy for the next four years. We tell you how the voting ended and what conclusions can already be drawn.

Thus, on Sunday at 7 a.m. local time in Poland the parliamentary elections started. The polling stations closed at 21:00, after which it was announced that a record turnout was set. Preliminary, more than 70% of voters voted.

Election results

Expectedly, the Law and Justice (PiS) party of Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski won the elections to the Polish parliament.

According to exit polls, Law and Justice was in the lead with 36.6% of the vote. The opposition Civic Coalition (CC) bloc, led by the Civic Platform (CP) party of former Polish Prime Minister and former President of the European Council Donald Tusk, can get 31% of the vote. And in third place, according to polls, is the centrist Third Way party with 13.5% of the vote.

If we talk about the number of seats in the parliament, the PiS will be represented by 198 deputies out of 460, the "Civic Coalition" will get 160 seats and will probably form a coalition with the "Third Way" and the Left Alliance, which will give them 248 seats in the parliament.

It is worth noting that PiS could not garner enough votes to form a one-party majority.

Thus, if the vote count remains the way it is predicted by exit polls, it is likely that the Prime Minister of Poland will be the leader of the "GC" Donald Tusk, who has already held this post in 2007-2014.

What should Ukrainians expect after the elections in Poland?

First of all, the positive for Kiev will be the fact that the elections in the neighbors will be coming to an end. It is the pre-election factor that has recently led to a lot of noise on the topic of relations between Ukraine and Poland.

It is also a fact that a return to good relations can be expected both in case of victory of the pro-European opposition and in case the PiS remains in power.

The only political force that could complicate relations between Ukraine and Poland - "Confederation" - showed, to put it mildly, a poor result in the elections, despite the fact that this party was predicted to receive a sufficient number of votes.

In general, the elections in Poland look quite satisfactory for Ukraine. All political forces in the coalition of "GC", "Third Way" and the Left adhere to quite a pro-Ukrainian position.

At the same time, the grain problem that broke out between Ukraine and Poland may continue to exist, because the leader of Polish farmers Michal Kolodziejczak is in the Sejm as a member of the "Civic Coalition", and for the Polish Peasant Party, as an obvious participant of the new coalition, the grain issue is also a priority.

We remind you! The Ukrainian issue became a tool in the confrontation between Polish parties on the eve of the parliamentary elections. Why Poles took to mass rallies and what percentage of Polish citizens do not support the continuation of aid to Ukrainians, we tell you here.
