Ukraine should speak the same language with the world - this slogan is supported by both the Ukrainian government and Ukrainians themselves, as the process of European integration is impossible without the active promotion of English in Ukraine. To make it easier and more convenient for Ukrainians to learn English, the government has launched a new national program called Future Perfect. But what is the current situation with foreign languages in Ukraine - we will tell you further in the article with reference to the KIIS sociological survey.

How many foreign languages do Ukrainians know?

According to the survey:

- 40% of respondents know one foreign language;

- 23% know 2 foreign languages

- 6% know three or more languages;

- 31% of respondents do not know any foreign languages.

The most popular foreign languages in Ukraine are:

- English (40%)

- Polish (22%)

- German (14%);

- French (7%);

- Spanish (3%);

Where is English needed in Ukraine?

According to the survey, Ukrainians most often use English in everyday life to:

- reading texts or messages (45%);

- communicating at the household level (39%)

- correspondence (31%);

- maintaining a professional conversation (30%).

At the same time, 61% of Ukrainians said that they have used English in their lives at least once in the last six months. In particular, when communicating with friends, at work, at school, or while traveling.

At the same time, 93% of adults with children want their children to improve their English skills. This indicates a high level of consciousness among Ukrainians, including in matters of the country's future.

It should be reminded that some foreign tourists who visited Ukraine during the war faced a language barrier in Ukraine and could not communicate freely with Ukrainians in English. Read more about the experience of foreigners in Ukraine here.
