Bypassing the blockade: how Ukrzaliznytsia transports trucks to Poland
Table of contents
The blockade of Ukraine's borders by Poland continues, but Ukraine has found an alternative solution for truck transportation. Find out how Ukrainian Ukrzaliznytsia sends trucks abroad and then returns them to Ukraine
On the night of December 8, Ukrzaliznytsia sent a batch of trucks to Poland by rail for the first time, bypassing the blocked road checkpoints. According to the carrier, this step had been in preparation for two weeks, and the first trucks have now arrived in Poland and continued to travel by road.
It should be noted that according to the European Business Association, one day of downtime due to a strike at Polish-Ukrainian border crossing points causes an average loss of about UAH 1 million for a Ukrainian company. Therefore, solving the problem in this way is very important for Ukraine.
How does Ukrzaliznytsia transport trucks by train?
It is noted that the container train consisted of 23 platforms that loaded 13 tractors with semi-trailers. At the same time, the trucks crossed the border without drivers, and they, in turn, got to the trucks by bus organized by the carrier. The train was traveling on the route Sknyliv (Ukraine) - Slavków (Poland)

"Customs and border clearance of the cargo takes place at the Izov - Hrubeshiv railway border crossing. Currently, there are still formal issues regarding the rapid crossing of the Polish border, and experts are already working to speed up the process. Similar flights will be organized in the opposite direction," Ukrzaliznytsia said.

On December 10, Ukrzaliznytsia's Facebook page posted a video of the first trucks that arrived in Poland and successfully continued to their final destination by road. The carrier noted that it plans to make the next shipments regular and to involve more modernized platforms in transportation.
In addition, the carrier notes that this option of transporting a truck by rail from Ukraine to Poland can now be ordered through the Liski Transport Service Center branch of Ukrzaliznytsia. To bring a truck back from Poland, you need to contact UZ Cargo Poland.
We remind you! In December, Boryspil Airport opened dozens of vacancies and is looking for not only service workers, but also commanders and stewards. Read our previous article to find out whether this means the airport will be opened for civilian aircraft in the near future.
