After the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the vast majority of refugees went to Poland. However, according to finance.ua, citing www.rp.p., in recent months, the outflow of Ukrainians from the neighboring country has begun to increase and refugees are seeking refuge in other European countries. In addition, the EU has recorded that Ukrainians have begun to leave the Czech Republic en masse. Thus, in November 2023, 55 thousand people emigrated from there.

What countries do Ukrainians choose instead of Poland - we will tell you further in the article.

How many refugees are there in Poland now?

According to the ZUS, 759 thousand people with Ukrainian citizenship paid contributions in December 2023, which is 6.9 thousand less compared to November of the same year. However, if we take into account the overall data for 2023, the number of insured Ukrainians in Poland increased by 13.4 thousand. That is, the outflow of refugees began only at the end of last year.

At the same time, according to Business Insider Polska, the outflow of refugees is also evidenced by Eurostat data on beneficiaries of temporary assistance in individual EU countries. Thus, according to statistics, at the end of December 2023, 951.4 thousand refugees from Ukraine lived in Poland, which is 5.3 thousand less than in the same month last year.

Where do Ukrainians from Poland go?

Eurostat records data on the countries in which Ukrainians received temporary assistance more often. Thus, these indicators help us to understand where Ukrainians from Poland are migrating to, i.e. where the largest influx of refugees is recorded.

Thus, the list of countries most often chosen by Ukrainians for relocation includes:

▶︎ Germany - in December 2023, the number of Ukrainians in this country increased by 275.4 thousand.

▶︎ Netherlands - by 35.5 thousand people.

▶︎ Norway - by 33.2 thousand people.

How to change the country of residence safely?

Please remember that for a safe stay in the EU, it is important for Ukrainians to take out appropriate health insurance. Although temporary protection status in most countries provides access to free healthcare, the quality of these services may not meet expectations. In addition, as a rule, the free healthcare package is often limited to a certain list of cases when a person can seek help, and in other situations, he or she will have to pay for it on his or her own. The European healthcare system is based on compulsory insurance. And, as you know, the cost of medical services in the EU is high, and even a simple visit to a general practitioner without taking into account the cost of tests can cost several hundred euros.

It is also important that free medical care will be available only in the country where the refugee has been granted temporary protection. That is, if a person has an accident or falls ill on a weekend trip to a neighboring country, he or she will not be able to receive free care.

Instead, health insurance allows you to get high-quality medical care in any EU country. In this case, the insured person will be able to consult a Ukrainian doctor about an urgent issue without waiting in lines and language barriers. After all, the advantage of a Ukrainian insurance policy is the availability of an alternative - namely, a remote visit to a doctor.
