Large-scale strike by Lufthansa employees: which flights in Germany are at risk?
Lufthansa employees are scheduled to go on strike in Germany this month. This situation has a major impact on flight schedules in many major German cities. Find out more about the reasons for the large-scale strike and its consequences
The Ver.di trade union has called on Lufthansa's ground staff to leave their jobs for 24 hours and go on strike on 7 February over pay issues, Euronews reports.
The union's demands include a 12.5% pay rise or an additional €500 per month for nearly 25,000 employees, including check-in, aircraft maintenance, maintenance and cargo personnel.
The strike is scheduled for four o'clock in the morning and will last 27 hours until Thursday morning. Airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf will be affected by the action.
Passengers who have booked flights on these dates will be notified of the cancellation and rebooking options on Monday 5 February at around 16:00 via email or the Lufthansa app. In case of flight cancellation without an alternative, the airline will allow you to convert your ticket to a Deutsche Bahn train free of charge.
Possible consequences of the Lufthansa strike in Germany
Lufthansa is one of the largest airlines in Germany. Its flight network covers numerous cities around the world, as well as domestic flights. The strike by Lufthansa employees could therefore affect thousands of passengers planning to travel to or through Germany on 7 January.
According to preliminary announcements, the strike may lead to the cancellation or delay of many Lufthansa flights, including domestic, international and intercontinental routes. This could create significant inconvenience for passengers planning to travel on these dates.
In addition, other airlines that have code share or partnerships with Lufthansa may also be affected by the strike. This may result in schedule changes and cancellations of certain flights operated with Lufthansa or using its fleet.
Passengers with flights to or through Germany on 7 January are advised to follow updates on flight status, check with their airlines and prepare for possible schedule changes.

In January 2024, the German drivers' union (GDL) announced a large-scale strike that was to block the country for six days due to demands for improved working conditions.
More than a thousand flights in Germany were cancelled or delayed on 1 February due to a one-day warning strike by airport security personnel organised by the union. This event affected approximately 200,000 passengers.
We remind you! Finland's largest airline has announced the cancellation of more than five hundred flights for this week. Find out more about the reasons for this decision and whether passengers will be compensated for cancelled tickets.
