Poland extends temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees: new terms of stay
The Government of Poland has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees and set new terms of legal stay. The decision was made in the context of continuing support and protection for Ukrainian citizens who were forced to seek asylum. Find out more about how long Ukrainians are allowed to stay in Poland
Poland has extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until June 30, 2024. According to Prawo.pl, this decision was made by the Polish Sejm. However, Polish lawmakers refused to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens until March 4, 2025, as proposed in the decision of the EU Council.
Extension of temporary protection for Ukrainians in Poland: details
Citizens of Ukraine who arrived in Poland between February 24, 2022 and March 4, 2024 can enjoy temporary protection until June 30 this year. Additionally, the Sejm has extended tax benefits until the end of the year for those providing humanitarian aid.
The law provides for the extension of the validity of national visas and temporary permits for Ukrainian citizens, as well as the period of departure of Ukrainians from the territory of Poland and the voluntary return of Ukrainian citizens.
The validity of residence cards, Polish identity documents for foreigners and "tolerated residence permits" issued to Ukrainian citizens will also be extended. The stay of Ukrainians in Poland on the basis of a Schengen visa will also be considered legal.

What benefits are available to Ukrainians?
Citizens of Ukraine will be able to enjoy the following benefits in Poland:
• Free access to the labor market.
• The right to receive family allowance.
• Access to healthcare.
• The ability to conduct economic activity.
There is also an extension of special rights for Ukrainian medical workers. The period for granting a work permit for this category of employees will be extended to 28 months, starting from February 24, 2022.
