Germany continues to accept and provide temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine. The flow of Ukrainians to Germany has only increased in recent months. So far, more than 1.2 million people have been granted temporary asylum. However, the housing situation in the country remains difficult, as it was in February.

We will tell you about the regions that continue to accept Ukrainians in March in the article with a link to uahelp.wiki.

Are you planning a trip abroad? Did you know that in many countries, health insurance is a prerequisite for entry? Without it, you may not even be allowed in or have to pay for treatment yourself, which can cost a significant amount.
You can apply for a travel health insurance policy quickly and conveniently through Visit Ukraine - in just 5 minutes online!

Conditions for Ukrainians arriving in Germany

Upon arrival in Germany, Ukrainians are placed in temporary reception centers, which are actually shelters. After the first stage, refugees will be distributed to the federal states.

At the same time, in February 2025, uahelp.wiki volunteers emphasized that Ukrainians should be prepared to live for a long time in hangars, dormitories, containers, or gyms, not necessarily near a large city." First of all, because the housing situation in the country is very difficult.

It is almost impossible to choose a federal state for registration, because even if a Ukrainian arrives at a particular camp in a particular state, there is no guarantee that he or she will stay there and not be redirected to another federal state. To move to another state, you will need to obtain a special permit, but it is granted only if there is a good reason (job, spouse, minor children).

Recommends going to the camp that is most convenient for you to get to. After all, all reception centers have approximately the same conditions, so there is no point in choosing. At the same time, there is no possibility to change the reception center, Ukrainians get one opportunity to register - after that, they will not be accepted elsewhere.

Which states are accepting Ukrainians in March 2025: addresses of camps

Aden-Württemberg - Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg is one of the most popular reception centers, but you should not expect to stay there at the moment. There are no places for IDPs, so the automated system will distribute you to another region. Most likely, it will be Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate or Hesse. The decision on distribution is made for each migrant separately by an automated system.

Since October 2024, there has been an innovation here - the reception center may require that you apply to the city office for admission before registering with them. This may take some time, so we recommend that you take care of your accommodation in advance or plan a route to another region of Germany in case of an unforeseen situation.

1. Karlsruhe

Address: Durlacher Allee 100, 76137 Karlsruhe. Currently open, but distributes to other regions. Since January 2024, it has been accepting everyone who drives their own car. Among the features are the following:

- cars must be parked outside the reception center;

- no animals larger than a cat are allowed.

2. Ellwangen

Address: (Georg-Elser-Str. 2, 73479 Ellwangen). Accepts refugees from Ukraine, but often sends them to other countries.

3. Freiburg

Address: Müllheimer Str. 7, 79115 Freiburg. Open, but often carries out distribution to other federal states. It has the following features:

- does not accept people in need of special medical care;

- accepts small pets that must stay with their owners at all times (dogs must be on a leash).

It is worth noting that you can get to some of the reception points only by your own car.
 Cars with Ukrainian licence plates can only be driven in Germany for a year after the first arrival in the country. For detailed instructions on how to re-register a Ukrainian car in Germany, read this article.

Bavaria - Bavaria

München

Address: Dachauer Str. 122a, 80637 München

It is located in southern Bavaria. As of February 2024, there are big problems for those who come with pets. Animals are required to be given somewhere, further distribution with animals is impossible, and shelters are overcrowded.

Traveling abroad is always accompanied by certain risks, from climate change to unforeseen health situations. Even a mild ailment can be a problem if a visit to a doctor costs hundreds of euros. To avoid unexpected expenses, it is worth taking out health insurance in advance. This is a guarantee that in case of illness or injury, you will receive the necessary assistance without financial difficulties. With Visit Ukraine, insurance takes only a few minutes, and the policy itself is sent directly to your email.

Augsburg

Address: Aindlingerstr. 16, 86167 Augsburg. Admission with animals is not possible.

Regensburg

Address: Zeißstraße 1, 93053 Regensburg. Distribution takes place in the eastern part of Bavaria, in the countryside.

Bamberg

Address: Erlenweg 4, 96050 Bamberg. Reception is open around the clock, but registration with pets is prohibited. Distribution is carried out in the northern part of Bavaria.

Geldersheim

Address: Conn-Str. 1, 97505 Geldersheim. A large hall with bunk beds and no partitions. It is located in the northern part of Bavaria (Franconia).

Earlier we wrote that in Germany, Ukrainian IDPs can
receive social benefits on an equal footing with citizens of the country. At the same time, a number of conditions must be met to avoid fines and reduced payments. For more details, follow the link.
