There are about 4.3 million Ukrainians in the EU who continue to enjoy temporary protection. At the same time, their number is rapidly decreasing. This is evidenced by updated Eurostat data.

We will tell you about the directions of migration of Ukrainian refugees and the countries from which they are leaving en masse in the article.

Remember! When planning a trip to Ukraine, first of all, you need to take care of the appropriate insurance policy, because any foreign insurance automatically terminates after crossing the Ukrainian border. In this case, we recommend that you take out insurance specifically covering military risks, which will cover not only standard medical care/treatment/diagnosis, etc. but also accidents and injuries caused by passive or direct military risks.

You can take out such insurance on the Visit Ukraine website. Follow the link and choose an insurance policy with the appropriate coverage and indemnity amount for the required period.

Which countries do Ukrainian refugees leave from most?

As of January 31, 2024, 4,303,115 Ukrainians who benefited from temporary protection were registered in the EU. In January of this year, the number of Ukrainians with this status decreased by 9100 people.

It is noted that the following countries received the most Ukrainian refugees as of January 31:

• Germany (1,270,150 people, or 29.5% of the total number in the EU);

• Poland (951,560 people, or 22.1%);

• Czech Republic (381,190 people, or 8.9%).

In January, the largest number of Ukrainians arrived in:

• Germany (+18,905 people, or +1.5%),

• Czech Republic (+8,155 people, or +2.2%)

• Spain (+2,830 people, or +1.5%).

At the same time, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in January decreased in Italy (-18,125 people, or -11.2%), Poland (-3,235 people, or -0.3%), Estonia (-225 people, or -0.6%), France (-205 people, or -0.3%) and Luxembourg (-10 people, or -0.2%).

It is emphasized that over 98% of persons with temporary protection in the EU are citizens of Ukraine. Adult women account for 46.1% of temporary protection recipients in the EU, children - 33.2%, and adult men - 20.7%.

We remind you! The majority of Ukrainian refugees who decided to return home came from countries directly bordering Ukraine. In particular, a significant number of returns were recorded from Poland, where almost half of the Ukrainians who emigrated there decided to return home.
