In 2024, the Romanian government has not yet provided financial assistance to Ukrainian refugees. This was reported by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), libertatea.ro reports.

It is emphasized that the money received by Ukrainians in February 2024 was allocated based on the results of 2023.

It is known that in February 2024, almost 78 thousand Ukrainians were in Romania.

Ukrainian refugees in Romania have not yet received financial assistance in 2024: details

"Regarding the expenditures for January and February 2024, steps were taken with higher structures to allocate the necessary funds after receiving requests from local government bodies. It is currently not possible to estimate the dates when we will receive the requested amounts," the IGSU noted.

Officials said the money would be transferred immediately after it is allocated from the state budget.

It is known that in 2023, Romania also allocated funds to help Ukrainian refugees with a great delay due to budget problems.

What kind of financial assistance did Romania provide in 2023?

In particular, last year the government revised the assistance program and reduced the amount of payments. Until April 2023, the 50/20 program was in effect, under which homeowners received 70 lei (14 euros) per day for accommodation and food for each refugee.

Starting in May, the government set the allowance at 750 lei (150 euros) for individuals and 2,000 lei (402 euros) per month for families. An additional 600 lei (120 euros) per person was also provided for food. This assistance was provided for 4 months. To receive assistance after that, adults had to be registered as unemployed or have a job, and children had to be enrolled in school.

A family of three Ukrainian refugees was supposed to receive 3,800 lei (764 euros) per month for accommodation and food, and one person was supposed to receive 1,350 lei (271 euros) per month.
