What is the Europrotocol?

The Europrotocol is a form that is signed by drivers at the scene of an accident. There is no need to call the police to draw up this protocol. Once completed, the Europrotocol is submitted to the insurance company to inform them about the accident and receive compensation.

Every driver receives a paper form of the Europrotocol when taking out a compulsory motor TPL insurance policy. However, in Ukraine, it is possible to fill out the document electronically through a special service called the Electronic Europrotocol. If the driver has lost or damaged the physical form, he or she can apply to the insurance company in writing and receive a new one.

Remember that it is mandatory for all vehicles in Ukraine to take out an MTPL insurance policy. Without compulsory motor insurance, a driver cannot issue a Europrotocol.

A motor third-party liability insurance policy (MTPL) is a guarantee of compensation for damages in the event of an accident. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can buy a CTP insurance policy from a licensed insurer. Packages with a deductible of UAH 3200, UAH 1600 and UAH 0 are available.

When is the Europrotocol drawn up?

Drawing up a Europrotocol is permitted by law only under the following conditions:

● no injuries or deaths as a result of the accident;
● both drivers have valid MTPL insurance policies;
● both drivers agree to the drawing up of the Europrotocol;
● the drivers are not under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.

Please note! According to the law, if at least one of these conditions is not met, a call to the National Police is mandatory.

Drivers who have drawn up a Europrotocol are obliged to submit their protocol form to the insurance company within 3 days after the accident. If the Europrotocol is drawn up using the Electronic Europrotocol service, the insurance company will be notified automatically.

Important! If a car with foreign registration is involved in an accident, a Green Card policy is required. Also, this situation requires filling out the paper form of the European Protocol.

Advantages of the Europrotocol

● Drivers who have legally signed the European Protocol have the right to leave the scene of a road traffic accident;
● drivers who have signed the European Protocol are exempted from the obligation to inform the police about road accidents;
● when filling out the Europrotocol, drivers do not have to pay a fine for committing an accident.

How to fill in the Europrotocol?

Here are some tips for filling out the Europrotocol, according to the instructions of the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine:

● before filling in the Euro-report, you should take photos of the accident scene and the cars. These photographs must then be submitted to the insurer together with the form;
● the Europrotocol must be filled in and signed by both drivers;
● one set of documents is required to complete the Europrotocol: the cover page, the original and a copy of the report of any party to the accident;
● the protocol should be filled out in a clear handwriting, preferably in block letters, using a ballpoint pen. Corrections in the Europrotocol are strictly prohibited, so if you make mistakes when filling out the form, you should use a new form.

How to draw up the Europrotocol: step-by-step instructions

● Item 1, 2. Indicate the date, time and place of the road traffic accident.
● Item 3, 4. Select the correct statement and mark it with an "X".
● Item 5. Information about the witnesses of the accident. If there were no witnesses, leave the entry "absent".
● Item 6. Information about the policyholder of both parties.
● Item 7. Information from the car registration certificate and insurance certificate.
● Item 8. Additional information about the insurance.
● Item 9. Driver's licence details and personal information of the driver (phone number, e-mail, address of residence).
● Item 10. An arrow indicating the direction and place of the initial impact of the cars must be shown.
● Item 11. Description of the damage to both cars.
● Item 12. Select the correct statements and mark them with an "X" and indicate the number of cells marked.
● Item 13. Draw a diagram of the accident: the location of the vehicles at the time of the accident, the direction of travel, road signs and markings, and the name of the streets or roads. Keep in mind that the diagram is one of the main factors on the basis of which the accident is analysed and the actions of the drivers are assessed.
● Item 14. Additional information.
● Item 15. Signatures of the parties involved in the accident.

Europrotocol in Europe

Drawing up the Europrotocol in European countries is allowed under the same conditions as in Ukraine. However, keep in mind that for this purpose, the driver of a vehicle with Ukrainian registration must have a valid Green Card insurance policy.

If you have a Green Card, if you get into an accident in Europe, you can expect to receive compensation from an insurance agent.

It is better to buy insurance online because it is quick and easy. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can buy a Green Card from a licensed insurer. Packages are available for different periods from 15 days to 1 year for cars and trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for trucks, as well as motorcycles and scooters.

The Europrotocol form is issued when the Green Card is issued. Ukrainians who conclude a contract with an insurance company receive the form in their native language. In most member states of the Green Card agreement, the Europrotocol form is the same.

It is also noted that when drawing up the Europrotocol abroad, drivers can provide data in their preferred language.

Keep in mind that in Europe, there is no possibility to draw up the Europrotocol in electronic form.
