The Czech government proposes to increase the amount of humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees with disabilities.

This issue is regulated by amendments to the law on the conditions of stay of Ukrainians with temporary protection (Lex Ukrajina 7), which have already been considered by the parliament. This was reported by ukraina.radio.cz.

Increasing humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees with disabilities in the Czech Republic: what is known

On September 1, the conditions for free accommodation for vulnerable categories of refugees will change. Previously, they could live in public housing indefinitely, but now this benefit will be valid only for 90 days. After that, Ukrainians with disabilities will have to look for housing on the rental market, which is a serious financial problem.

To support these categories of people, the Czech government proposes to increase the amount of humanitarian aid.

For children with disabilities, payments may increase from 5,235 CZK (€208) to 11,835 CZK (€467) per month. For adults with disabilities, it is planned to increase payments from 7,290 kroons (289.5 euros) to 11,690 kroons (464 euros) per month.

Will there be enough money for housing?

Non-governmental organizations that support refugees have criticized the new accommodation rules. They argue that the increase in payments does not compensate for the increase in rental costs.

For example, renting a room for two in a dormitory on the outskirts of Prague costs from 7150 CZK (284 EUR) per month, and in a hotel-type dormitory - 9580 CZK (380.4 EUR).

Representatives of civil society organizations, including Magda Faltova, director of the Association for Integration and Migration, emphasize the need to provide Ukrainians with access to the standard Czech social support system. This issue was discussed by the Czech Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka at the beginning of the year, but such changes are possible no earlier than August 2025.

Earlier we reported that the Czech authorities have introduced a new type of residence permit for refugees from Ukraine. Details are available here.
