The pearl of the steppe - Bessarabia: what You Tube bloggers Max Uzol and Olya Manko recommend to watch
Bessarabia is still not well explored by tourists, despite being one of the most historically rich areas. The culture of the region is a harmonious blend of the national heritage of several ethnic groups. Find out in the article what places in Bessarabia travel bloggers Max Uzol and Olya Manko recommend visiting and what features this region has
Bessarabia is a Moldovan-Ukrainian steppe region, of which only 30% is located on the territory of Ukraine (part of Chernivtsi Oblast and Budzhak in Odesa Oblast). The territory is characterised by a mix of cultures - Ukrainian, Jewish, German, Moldovan, Gagauz and others. Tourists can see this at every turn! Visit Ukraine specialists have watched a new video by You Tube bloggers Max Uzol and Olya Manko and offer you a story about the extraordinary Bessarabia on their recommendation - read the article. Of course, you can watch the video itself on the official channel of the travel bloggers.
How to get to Bessarabia?
At the moment, you can get to Bessarabia only through the territory of Moldova. A special road has been built near the border, which provides access (as a transfer to Bessarabia across the sea is currently impossible). The neighbouring states have agreed that Moldova will provide this section of the road to Ukrainians for use. It is currently under strict control, as, unfortunately, this road is often used by Ukrainians who want to avoid performing their military duties: there are dozens of abandoned cars along the road, which are also removed by tow trucks every day. It is obvious that Moldovan law enforcement officers have taken control of the situation 24/7. The drive to Bessarabia takes no more than 20 minutes, and you are already in the ancient Ukrainian steppe, which literally breathes history.
In order to avoid unpleasant situations when travelling to other countries, it is worth familiarising yourself with the rules for crossing the border. In July, some changes were made to the requirements, which we described earlier.
Frumushyka Nova - a village that rose from the ashes
Today, it is a large-scale ethnographic complex that encompasses German, Moldovan, Ukrainian, Gagauz, Jewish and many other cultures. Even the language here is unusual - listen to the bloggers' videos. Once upon a time, there was an ethnic settlement here, mainly consisting of representatives of Moldovan-Ukrainian families. However, the Communists had a hand in it... Deportation of the population with the ‘noble’ goal of strengthening the borders led to the disappearance of the village, whose name translated as ‘picturesque’. Only a few people returned from the eastern regions of the Soviet Union... And now, in the times of independent Ukraine, Frumushyka Nova has risen from the ashes: now different ethnic groups live here, there is a large farm, and ancient rural professions are developing. Frumushyka has regained its ‘picturesque’ fame.
Ukraine recently celebrated its Independence Day, as it has been fighting for freedom for many centuries (and the deportation is just the tip of the iceberg). Readabout the struggle of Ukrainians for freedom and independence in our article.
The largest monument to a shepherd in the world
Not far from Frumushyka Nova, there is a record-breaking monument - the largest monument to the profession in the world, which was included in the Guinness Book of Records. The giant shepherd stands almost 18 metres tall and is not only a monumental landmark, but also an observation deck - do you want to see Bessarabia from a bird's eye view? The statue was erected in the place where it is now - the guides say that the builders poured huge earthen ramparts on which the machinery was driven to mount the top of the monument. The author of the masterpiece is Vinnytsia sculptor Ivan Korolenko.
Yalpug is the largest natural lake in Ukraine
The largest natural freshwater lake in Ukraine, Yalpug, is located in Odesa Oblast, stretching across two districts of Odesa Oblast - Bolhrad and Izmail. The shores of the lake are not visible - it stretches for 40 kilometres and connects to the Danube. Yalpug is a paradise for fauna lovers: Ducks, swans, pelicans - all build their homes by the lake. Fishermen and artists often gather here, looking for incredible views.
