Croatia is becoming more and more popular among digital nomads thanks to a special visa that allows you to live in the country for up to one year, working remotely for foreign companies or running your own business outside the country. Here are the benefits, requirements, and the process of obtaining a digital visa in Croatia for Ukrainians.

In our previous article, we talked in detail about the digital nomad visa for Portugal (D8) and its differences from the D7 visa.

What is a digital nomad visa for Croatia?

A digital visa allows professionals working remotely to reside in Croatia without having to register a business in the country. This is a great opportunity for those who are looking for a comfortable and financially beneficial way to combine work and life in Europe.

Main advantages of a digital visa and what opportunities it opens up

Here are the main advantages of a digital visa for nomads in Croatia:

1. Residence for up to a year: you can reside in Croatia for up to 12 months while continuing to work for a foreign employer or your own business without the need to register it in Croatia.

2. Tax benefits: you do not need to pay tax on income earned outside the country, which makes this option especially beneficial for entrepreneurs and freelancers, as you will not have any obligations to the country's tax system.

3. Free movement within the Schengen area: thanks to Croatia's membership in the Schengen area, you will be able to travel easily across Europe and have easy access to other countries without the need for additional visas.

4. Favorable cost of living: the cost of living in Croatia is significantly lower compared to other European countries, which allows you to combine a high quality of life with moderate costs.

5. Easy to obtain a visa: low minimum income requirements and moderate visa fees make the process affordable for most remote workers.

Tax advantages for digital nomads in Croatia

The tax burden on citizens who decide to move to Croatia on the basis of a digital nomad visa is worth considering separately. After all, one of the main financial advantages is the ability to avoid taxation of income earned outside the country. For example, an IT specialist from Ukraine who works as a sole proprietor and receives income from abroad can reside in Croatia on the basis of a digital visa, paying taxes only in Ukraine at a reduced rate of 5%. However, it should be understood that other income not related to professional activities may be subject to taxation at standard rates in Croatia.

What are the criteria and requirements for obtaining a digital visa to Croatia?

To apply for a visa, you need to fulfill several conditions:

1. Proof of remote work: you need to confirm that you work for a company based outside Croatia or own your own business abroad. This can be confirmed by contracts, employment agreements or business registration documents.

2. Stable income: your monthly income must be at least 2300 euros. For each additional family member, 90 euros are added to this amount. This can be confirmed by bank statements or financial documents confirming a stable income.

3. Health insurance: you must have a valid health insurance policy that will cover the entire period of your stay in Croatia.

4. Clean criminal record: you must provide a certificate of no criminal record from your country of permanent residence. The certificate must be duly legalized and translated into Croatian.

5. Valid passport: your passport must be valid for at least one year from the date of application.

6. Address of residence in Croatia: you need to confirm that you have temporary accommodation in the country. This can be a lease agreement or confirmation of accommodation reservation.
