In the evening of 28 October, russian occupation forces dropped a half-tonne bomb on the State Industry Building, a Ukrainian national monument located in the central part of Kharkiv.

Details of the attack on Derzhprom

Local authorities reported that nine people were injured in the attack. The ceiling above the third floor of the State Industry Building was destroyed, and one wall is missing. The shock wave also smashed windows and part of the second floor.

It is worth noting that the russians used a powerful 500-kilogram bomb.

The police said that the hit occurred in one of the entrances to the building, where the economic court is located. The bomb hit one of the judges' offices. There were also civilian buildings nearby, none of which were of military importance.

History and facts about Derzhprom

Two years ago, UNESCO added 20 Ukrainian cultural heritage sites to the International List of Cultural Property under Enhanced Protection. Among them, in particular, was the Kharkiv building of Derzhprom.

The State Industry Building was built in the constructivist style, created at the time of its inception. It is the largest building of this style, as well as the first Soviet 13-storey skyscraper, built between 1925 and 1928.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, Derzhprom remained intact even during the Second World War, when the Nazis captured Kharkiv.

The facility is located on the city's central square, Freedom Square, which is the largest in Ukraine, the sixth largest in Europe and the twelfth largest in the world. Its area is less than 12 hectares and the height difference is more than 11 metres.

In 2018, Derzhprom was included in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.

It should be noted that this is not the first time the russian army has attempted to completely destroy Ukraine's cultural heritage - this list includes churches, museums, historic buildings and other objects.
