Who needs an insurance policy for a residence permit?
The State Migration Service requires health insurance for foreigners who plan to obtain a residence permit in order to:
● Employment in Ukrainian companies;
● Studying in educational institutions;
● Conducting volunteer, cultural, scientific and educational activities;
● Work in representative offices of foreign media, foreign banks and other organizations;
● Participation in international technical assistance projects
● Religious activities, etc.
Basic insurance requirements for a residence permit
In order to obtain a residence permit, foreigners must provide a health insurance policy that covers potential risks for the entire period of validity of the permit and, accordingly, their stay in Ukraine. This has become especially important in the current environment, when medical protection is of paramount importance, and an additional risk is the war in the country.
When applying for a residence permit, foreigners must provide a health insurance policy that meets the following requirements:
● The policy must be valid for the duration of the residence permit, i.e. at least one year;
● The insurance must be issued by a Ukrainian insurance company;
● The policy must include basic medical care and emergency medical care.
Currently, Ukrainian legislation does not provide for clear requirements for the amount of coverage, but as a rule, it should not be less than UAH 15,000. However, in today's realities, this amount is unlikely to cover the cost of treatment or medical services. Therefore, it is advisable to take out a policy with a broader coverage.
On the Visit Ukraine portal, foreigners can take out an annual insurance policy for a residence permit with coverage of up to UAH 120,000. The main advantage of such insurance is that in addition to standard medical coverage, it covers war risks and COVID-19.
