Insurance is not just a mandatory document for travelling to another country, but also serves as a guarantee of your financial security during your trip, regardless of the country of visit. Every Ukrainian travelling abroad needs an insurance policy: a tourist, a student, an employee, a pensioner.

Today, we are going to tell you about the peculiarities of insurance for travelling to Turkey, as well as how to choose a reliable policy for your trip.

Are you planning a trip abroad?

Take out reliable health insurance on the Visit Ukraine portal!

Do I need to take out insurance before travelling to Turkey?

Insurance is a prerequisite for Ukrainians to enter Turkey and is taken out primarily to take care of your safety and the safety of your loved ones during the trip. That is why 95% of tours to Turkey automatically include insurance. After all, thanks to an insurance policy, you can fully enjoy your holiday without worrying about emergencies and force majeure situations that, unfortunately, often happen to tourists.

What kind of insurance should I take out to visit Turkey?

When assessing what insurance risks you may face in Turkey, you need to choose the appropriate travel insurance that suits you. The list of risks may include injuries, burns of varying degrees, deterioration of health due to heat, exacerbation of chronic diseases, local diseases such as the Coxsackie virus, and much more.

When taking out insurance, you should clarify all the terms and conditions and study all the insurance risks specified in the contract. In particular, you should ask the insurer where to call (which assistance company) if an insured event occurs and what to do in such situations.

When signing the contract, pay attention to the following points:

1) The policy coverage area;

2) The maximum amount of coverage under the contract;

3) Availability and amount of deductible:

4) Separate COVID-19 coverage.

Why do you need health insurance?

If your trip starts with saving money on an insurance policy, is it right? After all, when travelling to another country, it is difficult to find a hospital that would be suitable for the parameters and available out of turn in an emergency for foreign citizens. In this case, either private clinics, which are very expensive, or a pre-arranged insurance policy that will save you 100% of your money in case of an insured event abroad, come to the rescue.

With the help of health insurance, you can cover the cost:

- Medical care. This item includes a doctor's examination, tests and all necessary medical procedures, including the cost of calling an ambulance;

- Assistance in force majeure situations. This means payment of compensation in case of injuries after outdoor activities (this is specified in advance in the contract): diving, surfing, mountain walks, etc;

- Maternity benefits. The health insurance will cover the costs of both premature birth and emergency gynaecological care (if specified in the contract);

- Assistance in the event of natural disasters and force majeure circumstances that may be harmful to health. Sometimes health deterioration can be caused by floods, hurricanes or other natural disasters.

Do I need insurance for permanent residence or employment in Turkey?

All foreigners aged 18-65 who reside in Turkey on a temporary residence permit, are employed in Turkey on an open work visa, or on the basis of citizenship are required to have a SGK (sigórta bedeli) health insurance policy. Foreigners have the right to obtain this policy both through the state and through private insurers.

This state health insurance in Turkey has quite good conditions, but it is available only after residing in the country for one year or during employment, as well as for students who have completed 3 months of study in Turkey.

There are two types of state insurance SGK in Turkey:

1) For individuals - SSK;

2) For business owners in Turkey - Bağkur.

The SGK insurance policy covers 100% of all medical services provided in municipal clinics in Turkey, and in a number of private Turkish clinics, this insurance policy guarantees a discount of 40 to 70%. The policy also covers up to 80% of the purchase of medicines prescribed by a doctor.

SGK insurance is essential for foreigners over the age of 65, although it is not mandatory for this category. However, given that private insurers often refuse to take out a policy for the elderly, this insurance is the best option to take care of your health in Turkey.

This policy covers all family members (spouse, children under 18, dependent parents).

How to choose the right insurance for travelling to Turkey?

Insurance should not cost even half the cost of the trip, and assistance in the event of an insured event should be decent and timely. All this is possible and has been working for a long time if you take out an insurance policy with a reliable insurance company.

First of all, you need to carefully choose the clauses to be included in the contract and find out all the details calculating the price of the policy and the cost of indemnity. To reduce the cost, you can refuse some clauses if you are sure that this will not happen to you. For example, a tourist knows that he or she will not go skydiving or hiking.

Note! Standard insurance policies for travelling to Turkey and most countries of the world cover the costs of first aid, repatriation in case of death, and transportation to a medical facility. If you are planning to go in for extreme sports or outdoor activities, you will need to buy a different insurance, which is somewhat more expensive.
