The Pereyaslav Rada and "Eternal World", the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen and the struggle to maintain statehood in 1918-1919, the creation of the UVO and the OUN, Carpathian Ukraine and the "Nakhtigal" battalion, the SS division "Galichyna" and the UPA... All the names of milestones on the way from which we did not leave empty-handed.
And also... about figures whose names you know, but can still be a real discovery. I will tell you interesting facts from the lives of the heroes of the princely and Cossack times, the "farmers" of Galicia and the leaders of the Ukrainian nationalist movement... You may disagree with their vision of the world, political views, concrete actions, but thanks to their sacrifices we live in an independent state today.
But the greatness of a nation is measured not only by the number of slain enemies. The most acceptable criterion is the quantity and quality of contributions to the world treasury of civilization. We still do not notice European figures in our own history. The European humanism of Metropolitan Sheptytskyi, the Europeanness of Franko's literature, the world fame of Solomia Krushelnytska - this is the elevation of man from the level of a slave to the creator of his destiny.
Let's paraphrase Jean-Jacques Rousseau and get: "Belong to different political currents, practice different religions, but don't forget that you are Ukrainians"
