Urych-Tustan
The state historical and cultural reserve "Tustan" is one of the most beautiful and striking places in Ukraine. This ridge of sandstone rocks in the middle of the Carpathians formed 25 million years ago and created a picturesque and exotic complex. Tustan used to be an important strategic point and part of the unified system of the Carpathian line of defense of the south-western borders of Kyivan Rus, and later the Kingdom of Rus. In the 9th-13th centuries on the rocks, there was a defensive complex, customs, and fortress city; the central part of the fortification occupied 3 hectares. Tustan is the only preserved wooden fortress of the 10th-13th centuries which makes it a unique monument of ancient architecture of the pre-Mongolian period both in Ukraine and Europe.
