Entry rules to Ukraine: important information for Ukrainians and foreigners
On the eve of Easter and May holidays, there is an increase in the number of Ukrainian and foreign citizens entering Ukraine. Find out more about the operation of checkpoints, rules for crossing the state border, customs regulations and other useful information
Many Ukrainians currently live abroad, so quite often people have the need to temporarily enter Ukraine. The purpose of the trip can be different - to visit relatives, take the necessary things, issue documents, etc. This issue is especially acute on the eve of the holidays, because Ukrainians are used to celebrating Easter in the family circle.
What should you worry about before traveling? Rules of temporary travel to Ukraine for Ukrainians and foreigners further.
Entry into Ukraine for citizens
Citizens of Ukraine can freely enter the territory of our state. To return, you will need a valid foreign passport or identity card for returning to Ukraine.
If your entry to Ukraine is temporary, and you plan to return to Europe again, you must follow certain rules.
• Ukrainians who are in Europe on a visa-free basis
The visa-free regime between the EU and Ukraine provides that Ukrainians can stay in the Schengen zone for no more than 90 days out of the last 180. Therefore, before returning, check whether your stay does not exceed the permissible number of days.
• Ukrainians who have obtained the status of temporary protection in Poland
The majority of Ukrainians received the status of temporary protection in Poland. It does not prohibit Ukrainians from visiting the Motherland, but their stay in Ukraine should not exceed 30 days.
If a person stays in Ukraine for more than 30 days, he loses the status of temporary protection and must already enter Poland under the general rules of the visa-free regime.
Importantly! The status of temporary protection is lost in the event of a one-time departure from the territory of Poland for a period of more than one month, and not when the sum of short departures exceeds this period.
Before your trip, we advise you to make sure that you have fully completed the procedure for issuing temporary protection, received the necessary stamps, passports, etc. (depends on the country of issue). If you have been living in Europe for a long time, then before leaving, make sure that your residence permit is still valid and, if necessary, apply for an extension in time. How to extend temporary protection, read our articles part 1 and part 2.
Notify the social services of your departure, if necessary, according to the laws of the host country.
Entry into Ukraine for foreigners
The borders of Ukraine are open, foreigners have the right to enter Ukraine, but not for tourist purposes, but for a specific purpose, for example, visiting relatives.
If a foreigner does not come from Russia or Belarus, he can enter Ukraine with a valid passport document and visa (if the country has a visa regime). Citizens of Turkey and Georgia have the right to enter on the basis of an ID card.
You also need to confirm the purpose of your stay, financial support for the entire period and provide a return ticket. For example, those who go to visit relatives - a document confirming family ties. Useful information about traveling to Ukraine for foreigners at the link.
