The Cypriot government has revised its approach to granting temporary protection to refugees from Ukraine. Read on to find out how the conditions for Ukrainians to stay on the island have changed.

Free accommodation in hotels in Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus supported refugees from Ukraine with free accommodation in hotels. As the authorities have extended temporary protection for Ukrainians for another year - until March 4, 2024, the right to stay in hotels with full board has also been extended. At the same time, we would like to draw your attention to the changes in the deadlines:

• Ukrainians who have been granted temporary protection in Cyprus and checked into hotels after March 1, 2023, can stay for 6 months or until March 4, 2024 (the deadline depends on which date comes first);

 Ukrainians who have already been granted temporary protection and stayed in hotels as of February 28, 2023, can stay with full board until May 31, 2023. However, if less than six months have passed since the date of obtaining the status, the period of free accommodation will be extended until the end of the 6-month period.

What to do after checking out of the hotel?

Those who need to be evicted from hotels will receive financial assistance to pay for housing. For this purpose, Cyprus has developed a rental subsidy scheme for displaced persons from Ukraine. It can be used by Ukrainians with temporary protection status who:

 Resided in state-allocated housing as of the date of the subsidy scheme's introduction (22.08.2022);

 Arrived in Cyprus for the first time after 08/22/2022 and have no other place of residence other than the one provided by the state.

To receive a subsidy, you need to fill out an online form and prepare documents. For more information, please follow the link.

Employment of Ukrainian refugees in Cyprus

Citizens with temporary protection status can legally work or start their own business in Cyprus.
