Every year on May 24, Europe celebrates European Parks Day. This is a holiday aimed at international unification for the protection of nature, national parks and reserves.

In this article, we have collected 8 of the most beautiful parks in Europe that you should visit at least once in your life.

Saxon Switzerland

This incredible national park is located on the border of the Czech Republic and Germany. This is the best place to relax your soul and to hear yourself and your thoughts better. Creative people come here to find inspiration, because the famous Artists' Trail - Malerweg - is located here, which stretches along 112 kilometers. According to legend, it is here that famous artists of old loved to spend time.

Triglav, Slovenia

Triglav is a famous national park in Slovenia, named after the mountain of the same name, which, by the way, is depicted on the country's flag and coat of arms. According to the story, the Triglav Mountain, which stands in the middle of the park, got its name because of its three peaks.

Tatra National Park

A unique national park on the border of Poland and Slovakia. It is a real wildlife wonder that is strictly protected. The highest mountain in Poland, Rysy, is located in the nature reserve. In addition to the majestic mountain, the Tatra National Park is surrounded by coniferous and birch forests and has about 30 mountain lakes with crystal clear water, 650 mysterious caves and the 70-meter-high Velka Siklava waterfall. This natural area is home to lynx, black goats, brown bears, and golden eagles.

Białowieża Forest

The most famous and oldest national park in Europe, located on the border of Poland and Belarus. According to UNESCO estimates, the average age of trees in the forest is 81 years. The Bialowieza Forest is the only example in the world of a prehistoric forest that covered the entire territory of Europe in ancient times. The modern forest is home to wild bison.

Gran Paradiso, Italy

A picturesque national park in Italy that was a place for sport hunting until 1856. But due to the risk that alpine goats could disappear forever, Gran Paradiso became a nature reserve. The rich fauna of the park is shocking in its peculiarity, because in addition to rare mountain goats, Eurasian owls, ermines, and alpine marmots can be found here.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

One of the most popular national parks in Europe, which is visited by a huge number of tourists every day. This natural area of Croatia is famous for its lakes, as there are about 16 lakes among dense forests, majestic caves and waterfalls that are simply mesmerizing in their beauty. The park's fauna is also amazing: wolves, forest cats, roes and bears live here.

Loch Lomond, Scotland

A national park located in Scotland. It is home to the majestic Loch Lomond. This natural area has gained its popularity because it was here that Walter Scott wrote his famous poem, which made him famous.

Etna, Sicily

Etna National Park, shrouded in ancient legends, was founded in 1987 on the island of Sicily. This park was created to protect a unique natural area and the highest active volcano in Europe - Mount Etna. Despite the volcano's fearsome nature, numerous villages are located at the foot of Mount Etna, and grapes, olives, and various fruits grow densely on its slopes.
