The Ukrainian and Romanian sides continue to deepen their relations and cooperation in a number of key areas, including ensuring reliable transit of Ukrainian goods across the borders of both countries.

Here's what the new agreement provides for and what other joint projects are being implemented between Ukraine and Romania.

Strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and Romania

During the visit of the Prime Minister of Ukraine to Bucharest, an important intergovernmental agreement was reached on joint coordination in ensuring the efficient transit of Ukrainian goods through Romania.

This is crucial for developing trade flows and expanding opportunities for Ukrainian entrepreneurs in European markets.

One of the key initiatives in the framework of cooperation will be the opening of a new border crossing point between Ukraine and Romania. This step will help increase transit volumes, as well as simplify and speed up border crossing procedures for trucks and other vehicles.

The opening of the new border crossing point will open up new prospects for entrepreneurs in both countries and will contribute to deepening trade and economic ties.

The intergovernmental statement provides for:

- Restoration and modernization of the transport infrastructure destroyed by Russia;

- Establishment of new checkpoints for road, rail, sea and river transport along the common border;

- Improving the railway infrastructure

- Simplification of border, customs, phytosanitary control, as well as facilitation of transit of goods between Ukraine and Romania.

In addition, the parties discussed an agreement to facilitate the transshipment of Ukrainian products in Romanian sea and river ports, as well as to intensify cooperation in the Danube region by fully utilizing the existing port infrastructure and attracting investments in its development.

The Ukrainian and Romanian governments also agreed to establish a border crossing point between the cities of Bila Tserkva and Sighetu Marmatiei. This checkpoint will be open around the clock for passenger and cargo transportation.

An agreement on mutual recognition of educational documents was also signed. This will allow Ukrainians to stay in neighboring countries and work in their specialty.

Romania's support for Ukraine

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis emphasized that his country, along with other NATO allies, will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for peace and freedom.

On July 6, Romania's Supreme Council of Defense (CSAT) discussed a project to establish an F-16 fighter pilot training center in the country, which will be available to NATO members and allies. Thus, the country was approved as a training center for Ukrainian pilots.

"As part of the European Union's military support, we will participate in the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the future, we will host a regional training center for F-16 pilots. This center will be equally accessible to Romanian, allied and Ukrainian pilots," said President Iohannis.

In addition, a new border crossing point "Dyakivtsi - Rakovets" was recently opened on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

According to an agreement between the Ukrainian and Romanian governments, the crossing will be open 24 hours a day for pedestrian and vehicular traffic, except for freight. The daily capacity of the crossing point is 1,550 citizens and 300 vehicles.
